Bilişsel davranışçı psikoterapiler çeşitli terapi okullarını içinde barından bir çatı terimdir. Bilişsel davranışçı terapi (BDT) duygudurum, anksiyete, kişilik, yeme, madde kullanımı, tik ve psikotik bozukluklarının tedavisinde kullanılan; yapılandırılmış, kısa-süreli, bugüne odaklı ve direktif bir psikoterapidir. BDT güncel problemlerin çözümüne ve işlevsiz düşünce ve davranışların değiştirmeye odaklanır. Esasen bu isim temel davranışçı ve bilişsel prensiplerin bir bileşimini ifade eder. Bu uygulama, belli bir ruhsal bozukluğun tek bir davranışçı veya sosyal öğrenme prensibiyle açıklanmayacağını daha ziyade davranışçı, sosyal öğrenme ve bilişsel perspektiflerin birlikte kullanılarak anlaşılabileceğini kabul eder. BDT ''sorun çözme'' ve ''eylem yönelimli'' bir tedavi yaklaşımıdır. Bu gözden geçirmede biz bilişsel davranışçı terapilerin tarihi gelişimini ve kendilerine özgü kavramsallaştırmalarına dair genel bir çerçeve çizmeyi amaçladık.

Cognitive behavioral psychotherapy is an umbrella term consisting of various therapy schools. Cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT) is a structured, short-term, present-oriented, and directive psychotherapy for many psychiatric disorders including mood, anxiety, personality, eating, substance abuse, tic, and psychotic disorders. CBT is directed toward solving current problems and modifying dysfunctional (inaccurate and/or unhelpful) thinking and behavior. The name actually refers the therapy based upon a combination of basic behavioral and cognitive principles. This procedure acknowledges that there is no single behavioral or social learning principle can account for distinct psychological problem of a human rather psychological disorders can be understood by using behavioral, social learning, and cognitive perspectives together. CBT is "problem focused" and "action oriented" in its therapeutic approach. In this review we draw a framework in an attempt to understand of the history and the conceptualizations of the cognitive behavioral therapies.
