Cinsel kimlik bozukluğu, kendi cinsiyetinden rahatsız olma, karşı cinsiyetten olma isteği veya ısrarlı bir biçimde karşı cinsiyetle özdeşim kurma ile seyreden bir klinik durumdur. Ender rastlanan bu tablonun etiyolojisinde pekçok etken öne sürülmüş ve tedavisi ile ilgili etkin yöntemler henüz tanımlanamamıştır. Bu yazıda DSM-4’ e göre cinsel kimlik bozukluğu tanısı alan beş olgudan kısaca bahsedilmiş ve bu olgulardan yola çıkarak bir gözden geçirme yapılmıştır.

Gender identity disorder is a clinical condition characterized by a persistent discomfort with his or her sex, a desire to be of the other sex or a strong and persistent cross-gender identification. Many factors have been suggested to contribute in the etiology of this rare clinical disorder and any effective therapeutic procedures have not been yet determined. Five cases that were diagnosed as gender identity disorder have been summarized with a review of the literature on the subject.
