Amaç: Bu çalışmanın amacı, üniversite öğrencilerinin stresle başa çıkma biçimleri ile yalnızlık düzeyleri arasındaki ilişkiyi incelemektir. Yöntem:Araştırmanın örneklemini toplam 316 üniversite öğrencisi oluşturmuştur. Öğrencilerin stresle başa çıkma düzeyleri “Stresle Başa Çıkma Ölçeği”, yalnızlık düzeyleri ise “UCLA Yalnızlık Ölçeği” ile ölçülmüştür. Verilerin analizinde Pearson momentler çarpımı korelasyonu ve tek yönlü varyans analizi kullanılmıştır. Bulgular: Öğrencilerin yalnızlık düzeyleri ile stresle başa çıkma biçimlerinden olan; sosyal destek arama ve soruna yönelme düzeyleri arasında negatif yönde, sorunla uğraşmaktan kaçınma düzeyleri ile pozitif yönde ilişki bulundu (p<.01). Öğrencilerin yalnızlık düzeyleri yükseldikçe buna paralel olarak sorunla uğraşmaktan kaçınma düzeylerinin de yükseldiği ancak sosyal destek arama ve soruna yönelme düzeylerinin düştüğü bulundu (p<.01). Tartışma: Üniversite öğrencilerinin stresle başa çıkma biçimleri ile yalnızlık düzeyleri arasında anlamlı ilişkiler bulunmuştur.Yalnızlık düzeyleri yüksek olan öğrencilerin stresle başa çıkma tekniklerini aktif olarak kullanamadıkları ortaya çıkmıştır.Bu nedenle yalnızlık düzeyleri yüksek olan öğrencilere düzenli şekilde gerekli ve yeterli psikolojik destek programları hazırlanmalıdır

Objective: The aim of this study is to observe the relationship between loneliness levels and coping with stress styles of university students. Method: The sample of this study consisted of 316 university students in total. A “Coping With Stress Scale” has been used to measure coping with stress levels of students, whereas students’ loneliness levels have been measured by “UCLA Loneliness Scale”. Pearson’s product moment correlation coefficient and one-way variance analysis were used for the analysis of data. Results: The relationship between seeking for a social support and approaching the problem level was negative, whereas the relationship was positive in avoiding the problem (p<.01). It was found that while the loneliness levels of the students were getting higher, the levels of avoiding the problem were higher in parallel; however, the levels of looking for a social support and approaching the problem became low (p<.01). Conclusion: The relationship between loneliness levels and coping with stress styles of students is significant. It has been found that the students with high loneliness levels have not actively tried any techniques for coping with stress. Therefore, some required and sufficient psychological supportive programmes for students with high loneliness levels should be organized
