Bu çalışmanın amacı evli çiftlerin çatışma sırasında yaşadıkları kızgınlık, üzüntü ve suçluluk gibi duygularını eşlerine nasıl ifade ettiklerinin ölçülmesi ve ilgili ölçüm araçlarının Türkçeye uyarlanmasıdır. İlk olarak, ilgili duyguların Türk kültürüne özgü dışavurumlarını kapsamlı olarak incelemek amacıyla hem nicel hem de nitel ön çalışmalar yapılmıştır. Nitel ön çalışmada yarı yapılandırılmış görüşmeler yürütülmüş ve kültüre özgü maddeler ortaya çıkarılmıştır. Nicel ön çalışmada ise Guerrero (1994; Guerrero ve ark., 2008; 2009) tarafından geliştirilen kızgınlık, üzüntü ve suçluluk duygularının ifadesi ölçekleri Türkçeye uyarlanmıştır. Yapılan üçüncü (ana) çalışmada ise bu iki ön çalışmadan elde edilen bilgiler bir araya getirilerek, kültüre özgü maddeleri de içeren kızgınlık, üzüntü ve suçluluk ifade stilleri ölçekleri oluşturulmuş ve bu ölçeklerin güvenirliği ve faktör yapıları incelenmiştir. Ana çalışmaya 167 evli çift katılmış ve analizler kadın ve erkekler için ayrı ayrı yapılmıştır. Temel bileşen analizlerinin sonuçları, kadın ve erkekler için kızgınlık ifadesini yansıtan yaygın, pasif, kaçınmacı ve olumlu/bütünleyici kızgınlık stilleri olmak üzere dört alt boyut; üzüntü ifadesini yansıtan, yalnız kalma/yıkıcı davranış, sosyal destek arama/eşe bağımlı davranış ve olumlu faaliyet olmak üzere üç alt boyut; ve suçluluk ifadesini yansıtan ise özür dileme/ödün verme, inkâr etme ve açıklama getirme olmak üzere üç alt boyut ortaya çıkarmıştır.

The current study aims to measure how married couples express their anger, sadness, and guilt emotions towards their partners during conflictual situations and to adapt the measures assessing these emotions into Turkish. For this aim, two pilot studies, one using a qualitative and the other a quantitative design, have been conducted to see whether there were culture-specific ways of expressing emotions in the Turkish cultural context. In the qualitative pilot study, semi-structured interviews were conducted to retrieve culture specific aspects of emotion expressions. In the quantitative pilot study, Guerrero’s (1994; Guerrero et al., 2008; 2009) three scales measuring anger, sadness, and guilt expression in close relationships were adapted into Turkish. The findings of these two pilot studies were combined in designing the third (main) study. With the addition of culture specific items to the original scales, comprehensive anger, sadness, and guilt expression scales were developed and the factor structures and reliability of these scales were examined in the main study. The main study involved a sample of 167 married couples and the analyses were conducted for wives and husbands, separately. Results revealed a four-factor solution for anger expression styles, namely distributive, passive, avoidance aggression, and integrative assertion. Analyses on the items of sadness expression yielded three factors, corresponding solitude/negative behavior, social support/dependent behavior, and positive activity. Finally expression of guilt was represented by three factors capturing apology/appeasement, denial, and explanations.
