Dikkat Eksikliği/Hiperaktivite Bozukluğu (DEHB) çocukluk döneminde başlayan ve erişkinlik döneminde de sıklıkla devam eden bir bozukluktur. Çalışmalar alkol ve madde kullanım bozukluklarının (AMKB) DEHB olan bireylerde topluma göre daha yaygın görüldüğünü bildirmektedir. Son yıllarda DEHB ve AMKB eştanısına artan bir ilgi olmuştur. DEHB tek başına ve eşlik eden psikopatolojiler ile birlikte, ergenlik ve erişkinlikte AMKB gelişimi için risk etkenidir. DEHB ve AMKB olan hastalarda sadece AMKB olanlara göre AMKB başlangıç yaşı daha erkendir, remisyon daha geç sağlanır, klinik seyir daha uzun ve kötü olma eğilimindedir. Bu yazıda DEHB ve AMKB arasındaki ilişki tanımlanmış; DEHB ve AMKB gelişme riski, bu ilişkide olası nörobiyolojik mekanizmalar, DEHB tedavisinin AMKB gelişimine olası katkısı ve farmakolojik tedavinin DEHB-AMKB üzerine etkileri tartışılmıştır.

Attention Deficit/Hyperactivity Disorder (ADHD) is a common disorder in children that frequently persists into adulthood. Studies have found that alcohol and substance use disorders (ASUD) are seen more commonly in those with ADHD subjects than the general population. In recent [year]s there has been increasing interest in the overlap between ADHD and ASUD. ADHD alone and in combination with co-occurring psychopathology is a risk factor for the development of ASUD in adoloscence and adulthood. Patients with ADHD and ASUD have an earlier age at onset of ASUD, may take longer to achieve remission, are likely to have a longer course and poorer outcome than those with only ASUD. In this article, the relationship between ADHD and ASUD was described. ADHD and the risk for the development of ASUD, possible neurobiological mechanisms of the relationship, possible contribution of the ADHD treatment to the development of ASUD and effects of pharmacological treatment on ADHD-ASUD were also discussed.
