Amaç: Bu çalışmada, obez kadınlarda psikiyatrik tanı sıklığının ve depresif belirti şiddetinin araştırılması amaçlanmıştır. Yöntem: Çalışmaya obezite tedavisi için endokrinoloji polikliniğine başvuran, Beden Kitle indexi (BKİ) 30 ve üzerinde olan, kronik fiziksel bir hastalığı bulunmayan 55 kadın alındı. Benzer yaş grubundan, BKİ 25 ve altında olan 55 kadın kontrol grubunu oluşturdu. Çalışmaya katılan bireylere DSM-IV tanı kriterlerine göre yapılandırılmış psikiyatrik görüşme (SCID-I) uygulandı. Depresif belirtilerin şiddeti Hamilton Depresyon Derecelendirme Ölçeği (HAM-D17) ile değerlendirildi. Bulgular: Obez grubun yaş ortalaması 41.07±10.00 yıl, kontrol grubunun 43.38±7.38 yıl olup iki grup arasında farklılık yoktu. Obez kadınlarda BKİ kontrol grubuna göre yüksek bulundu (sırasıyla 37.38±6.75, 22.45±1.83). Obez gruptaki psikiyatrik tanı sıklığının kontrol grubuna göre yüksek olduğu tespit edildi (sırasıyla %60 s=33, %9.1 s=5). Geçirilmiş psikiyatrik bozukluk sıklığı obez grupta kontrol grubuna göre yüksek bulundu (sırasıyla %45.5 s = 25, %16.7 s = 5). En sık konulan tanılar duygudurum bozuklukları ve anksiyete bozuklukları olarak belirlendi. Obez grupta HAM-D17 puan ortalaması kontrol grubuna göre yüksek bulundu. Sonuç: Çalışmamızda obezite nedeniyle tedavi arayışında olan kadınlarda psikiyatrik bozukluk sıklığının normal kilolu kadınlara göre yüksek olduğu belirlenmiştir. Sonuçlarımız obezite ve psikopatoloji arasındaki ilişkinin varlığını desteklemekte, tedavi arayışında olan obez kadınlarda psikiyatrik değerlendirmenin gerekli olduğunu düşündürmektedir.

Objectives: The aim of the present study was to investigate
frequency of psychiatric disorders and severity of
depression in obese women. Method: The sample was
consisted of 55 obese women consecutively admitted
to the endocrinology outpatient clinic, Body Mass
Index (BMI) 30 and over and without chronic physical
disease. Control group was formed of 55 women that
same age group, BMI 25 and under and without chronic
physical disease. Structured psychiatric interview
(SCID-I) according to the DSM-IV diagnostic criteria were
performed all individuals participating in the study. The
severity of depression were assessed by the Hamilton
Rating of Depression Scale (HAM-D17). Results: It was
determined that mean age 41.07±10.00 [year]s in obese
group, 43.38± 7.38 [year]s in control group. There was no
difference between the two groups. BMI was higher in
obese women than the control group (respectively
37.38±6.75, 22.26±1.91). The prevalence of psychiatric
disorders was higher in the obese subjects than the control
group (respectively 60% n=33, 9.1% n=5). Mood
disorders and anxiety disorders were the most found
diagnosed in obese group in present and lifetime. HAMD17
scores of obese subjects were significantly higher
than the control group. Conclusion: In our study,
women who seek treatment for obesity, the prevalence
of psychiatric disorders are higher than normal-weight
women. Our results support the existence of the relationship
between obesity and psychopathology.
Psychiatric evaluation is necessary obese women who
seek treatment for obesity.
