Ası, intihar girişim yöntemleri arasında ölüm olasılığı en yüksek olan yöntemlerdendir. Ölümle sonuçlanmayan ası girişimlerinde morbidite ağır seyretmektedir. Ası sonucu karotis ve vertebral arterlerin akut oklüzyonu nedeniyle serebral kan akımı kesintiye uğramakta, beyin parankiminin oksijen ve glikoz desteğinin azalması ile hipoksik ensefalopati gelişmektedir. Hipoksinin süresine ve etkilenen beyin bölgelerine göre başta bilişsel bozulmalar olmak üzere çeşitli psikiyatrik belirtiler ortaya çıkmaktadır. Bu yazıda ası ile intihar girişimi sonrasında bilişsel alan-da bozukluk gelişen ve sekizinci aya kadar anormal beyin görüntüleme bulgusu vermeyen bir olgu tartışılmıştır.
