Çocukluk ve ergenlik döneminde ortaya çıkan psikopatolojilerin tedavisi, erişkin döneminde daha ciddi sorunların gelişmesini engelleyebilir. Ancak çocuk ve ergenlerin tedavisinde kullanılan psikotrop ilaçların etkililiği ve güvenliliğine ilişkin bilgilerin sınırlı olması, hem yan etkilerinin hem de henüz gelişmesini tamamlamış nörobiyolojik sistemler üzerinde söz konusu ilaçların uzun dönem etkilerinin ön görülememesine neden olmaktadır. Bu yazıda çocuk ve ergen yaş grubunda ilaç etkisini belirleyen fizyolojik değişiklikler ile bu değişikliklerin farmakokinetik ve farmakodinamik özellikler üzerine olan etkisinden bahsedilmiştir. Son yıllarda çocuk ve ergenlerde kullanımı giderek artan psikotrop ilaçların reçetelenmesinde, pediyatrik populasyondaki farmakokinetik ve farmakodinamik özelliklerin iyi bilinmesi; doğru dozun verilmesi ve maksimum klinik yarar, minimum toksisite ve yan etki görülmesini sağlamada önemlidir.

The treatment of childhood and adolescent psychopathology may prevent the development of more serious problems in emerging adulthood. However, information about the pharmacological treatment of child and adolescent psychiatric disorders is limited. In the current review, physiological changes in child and adolescent age group that effect the pharmacokinetic and pharmacodynamic properties of the psychoactive drugs are discussed. In recent [year]s, psychotropic medication use and prescription for children and adolescents increased, because of that pharmacokinetic and pharmacodynamic properties of the medication, dosage for maximum clinical benefit, toxicity and side effects should be investigated by further studies.
