Cinsel terapi cinsel işlev bozukluklarının tedavisinde kullanılan bir psikoterapi yaklaşımıdır. Genellikle eş yada partnerle birlikte ve haftalık seanslar şeklinde uygulanır. Terapötik müdahalelerin öncesinde terapiste kişinin yada çiftin sorunlarını daha iyi anlamasında ve uygun bir tedavi planı geliştirmesinde yardımcı olacak olan ayrıntılı bir değerlendirme gerçekleştirilir. Daha sonra çeşitli terapi yaklaşımları çiftin evlerinde uygulayacakları cinsel egzersizlerle bütünleştirilir. Günümüzde bazı cinsel işlev bozuklukları için farmakolojik tedavi seçenekleri olmakla birlikte cinsel terapi mutlaka tedavide yer almalıdır. Kişinin psikososyal durumunun ve partneri ile olan ilişkisinin niteliğinin cinsel işlev bozuklukları üzerindeki etkileri göz önüne alındığında bu zorunluluk daha iyi anlaşılabilir.

Sex therapy is a psychotherapy approach used for the treatment of sexual dysfunctions. Usually it requires the participation of the patient's partner and done in a weekly format. Before the therapeutic interventions, a detailed assessment that helps the therapist to understand the couples'; problems and to develop a treatment plan should be performed. Afterwards elements from several psychotherapy approaches are combined with specific sexual exercises that the couples practice in their homes. Although pharmacological options for some sexual dysfunctions now exist, sex therapy must be a part, if not all of the treatment. The impact of the individual's psychosocial characteristics and the nature of the relationship with his or her partner on the sexual dysfunctions makes this obligation easier to appreciate.
