Amaç: Deliryum, yaygın bilişsel bozukluklar, sanrılar, varsanılar, duygudurum değişiklikleri, uyku-uyanıklık döngüsünde değişimler gibi çok sayıda belirtiyi içeren yaygın bir klinik sendromdur. Bu gözden geçirme yazısında çocukluk ve ergenlik döneminde ortaya çıkan deliryum ve deliryum tedavisine yönelik yaklaşımlarının incelenmesi amaçlanmıştır. Yöntem: PubMed arama motorundan "delirium", "pediatric" ve "treatment" anahtar sözcükleri kullanılarak 65 makaleye ulaşılmıştır. Bu derleme öncelikli olarak derleme ve olgu sunumu tarzındaki makalelerden elde edilen veriler özetlenerek yazılmıştır. Sonuçlar: Çocuklarda ortaya çıkan akut psikiyatrik bulgular ve davranış sorunları tersi kanıtlanıncaya dek deliryum olarak değerlendirilmelidir. Deliryumun altta yatan hastalığın gidişini önemli ölçüde etkilemesi nedeniyle çocukluk çağı için psikiyatrik bir acil olarak görülmeli ve buna yönelik olarak sağaltımı yapılmalıdır. Ancak, deliryum tanısı konan çocuk ve ergen hastalar için halen uygun ilaç dozu ve özgül sağaltım protokolleri ile ilişkili tedavi algoritmaları yoktur. Tartışma: Deliryumun hasta bakımı, mortalite ve morbiditeyi üzerine olumsuz etkileri nedeniyle erken tanı ile uygun sağaltımı oldukça önemlidir.

Objective: Delirium is a common neuropsychiatric syndrome that involves a number of symptoms including dffuse cognitive impairment, delusions, hallucinations, mood lability and disturbances in sleep-wake cycle. The aim of this article, was to reiew pediatric delirium and its treatment. Method: 65 articles were found in PubMed when "delirium", "pediatric" and "treatment" were used as the key words and this article was written by summarizing especially the review articles and case reports about pediatric delirium and its treatment. Results: The acute psychiatric symptoms and behavior problems in children should be evaluated as delirium until any other diagnosis is put. Because of the serious effects of delirium on the course of main disease, it should be evaluated as a psychiatric emergency, and treatment should be planned according to this perspective. But, as yet, there is not any treatment algorithm about the appropriate medication dosages and specific treatment protocols. Discussion: Because of the negative impact on patient care, mortality and morbidity, early diagnosis and correct treatment of delirium is quite important.
