Bu makalede Dürtü denetim bozukluklarının tarihsel süreç içinde nozolojisi ve sınıflandırılması ile ilgili değişimler gözden geçirilmiş, genel anlamda psikiyatrideki nozoloji ve sınıflandırma sorunu dürtü denetim bozukluğu örneğinde ortaya konulmaya çalışılmıştır. Gerek hastalar gerekse toplum açısından büyük sıkıntılar doğurmasına rağmen dürtü denetim bozuklukları hakkında az araştırma yapılmış ve yeterince iyi tanımlanmamıştır. Dürtü denetim bozukluklarının biyolojik psikolojik ve sosyal doğası ile ilgili çeşitli teoriler mevcuttur. Bunun ötesinde bu bozuklukların yeniden kavramsallaştırılmasında ICD ve DSM gibi tanısal sınıflama sistemlerinin gelişimine paralel yeni sorunlar ve sorular ortaya çıkmaktadır.

In this article, nosologic changes and classification of Impulse Control Disorders throughout the history have been reviewied and general problematics of nosology and classification of the psychiatric diseases are explored through the impulsive behaviors example. Although the impulsive behaviors can cause a great deal of suffering for patients and society, they have remained relatively under researched and poorly characterized. Various theories exist concerning the biologic, psychologic and social aspects of the impulse control disorders. Beyond that there are significant issues to address in revising impulse control disorder nosology as we move toward a more useful diagnostic classification system such as ICD and DSM.
