Amaç: Bu çalışmada, sokakta çalışan çocukların öz kavramları incelenmiştir. Yöntem: Çalışmanın örneklemini Adana sokaklarında çalışan 66 ve çalışmayan 66 olmak üzere, 9-16 yaş grubundaki 132 çocuk oluşturmaktadır. Her iki gruptaki çocukların öz kavramlarını belirlemek amacıyla Piers-Harris'i n Çocuklarda Öz-Kavramı Ölçeği (Piers-Harris Children's Self-Concept Scale) kullanılmıştır. Bulgular: Analizler sonucunda, sokakta çalışan çocukların öz kavramı puan ortalamalarının sokakta çalışmayan çocuklardan daha düşük olduğu saptanmıştır. Ayrıca mutluluk-doyum ve davranış alt ölçek puanları arasında istatistiksel olarak anlamlı bir ilişki bulunurken; kaygı, popularite, fiziksel görünüm ve okul durumu alt ölçekleri arasında anlamlı bir ilişki bulunmamıştır. Tartışma: Sokakta çalışan çocukların benlik tasarım puan ortalamalarının sokakta çalışmayan çocuklardan daha düşük olduğu saptanmıştır. Bu durum çocuğun sokakta çalışıyor olmasından kaynaklanabilir. Bu bulgular daha önceki araştırma bulguları ile de paralellik göstermektedir.

Objective: In this study the self-concept of the children working in the street was examined. Method: The sample of the study consisted of 132 children at the ages of 9-16, 66 of which work in the streets of Adana province and 66 of which do not work. ??Piers-Harris Children's Self-Concept Scale?? was used to determine the self-concept of the children in both groups. Results: The results of the analysis revealed that the self-concept of the children working in the street scored lower than the children who are not working in the street. Moreover, while a statistically significant difference was found between the scores of happiness and satisfaction and behavior subscales, there were no significant differences between the scores of anxiety, popularity, physical appearance, intellectual and school status subscales. Conclusions: The results of the analyses revealed that the self-concept of the children working in the street scored lower than the children who are not working in the street. Working in the streets effects the children's self-concept negatively. This finding is consistent with the previous research.
