Dikkat Eksikliği Hiperaktivite Bozukluğu Olan Çocuklarda Anne Sütü Alma Süreleri

Amaç: Daha önceki çalışmalarda emzirmenin mental gelişimde önemli rolü olduğu ileri sürülmüştür. Dikkat eksikliği hiperaktivite bozukluğunda (DEHB) anne sütü alma süresi çok az çalışmada araştırılmıştır. Bu çalışmanın amacı DEHB olan çocuklar ile normaller arasında emzirme sürelerini karşılaştırmak ve bu çocuklarda emzirme süresi ile zeka bölümü, görsel motor algı becerileri arasındaki ilişkiyi araştırmaktır. Yöntem: DEHB olan 91 çocukta anne sütü alma süreleri, yaş, cinsiyet, ırk ve sosyoekonomik olarak benzer olan ve herhangi bir mental bozukluğu olmayan kontrollerle karşılaştırıldı. Emzirme süresiyle DEHB'da, Bender Gestalt Görsel Motor Algılama Testi (BGMAT), Wechsler Çocuklar ?çin Zeka Ölçeği (WISC-R) ve Yıkıcı Davranış Bozukluklarının DSM-IV'e Dayalı Tarama ve Değerlendirme Ölçeği (YDB-TDÖ) puanları arasındaki korelasyon ara.tırıldı. Bulgular: DEHB olan çocuklarda emzirme süresi normallere göre önemli derecede kısadır. Emzirme süresi ile sözel IQ, performans IQ, ve tüm IQ puanları, WISC-R'ın aritmetik ve resim tamamlama alt testleri arasında pozitif korelasyon vardır. DEHB grubunda emzirme süresi ile WISC-R? ın diğer alt testleri ve BGMAT skorları arasında önemli bir korelasyon yoktur. Tüm grupta (DEHB olanlar ve normaller), emzirme süresi ile YDB-TDÖ dikkat eksikliği ve hiperaktivite puanları arasında negatif korelasyon gözlendi. Tartışma: Bu çalışma emzirmenin DEHB? da koruyucu rol oynayabileceğini ve zihinsel gelişimde yararlı olabileceğini düşündürmektedir.
Breast Feeding Duration in Children with Attention deficit Hyperactivity Disorder
Objective: Previous studies suggested that breast-feeding has an important role in mental development. Very few studies have investigated the duration of breast-feeding in attention deficit hyperactivity disorder (ADHD). The aim of the this study is to compare duration of breast feeding in children with ADHD and normals, and to determine the relationship between duration of breast feeding and the intelligence quotient, and visual motor abilities. Method: The duration of breast feeding in 91 male children with ADHD was compared fifty age, sex, race, and socioeconomic matched controls without any mental disorder. The correlation between duration of breast-feeding and the scores of Visual Motor Gestalt Test (VMGT), Wechsler Intelligence Scale for Children-Revised (WISC-R), and DSM-IV Based Disruptive Behavior Disorders Screening and Rating Scale (DBD-STS) in ADHD group was investigated. Results: The duration of breast-feeding was significantly shorter in children with ADHD than in normals. The duration of breast-feeding positively correlated with the verbal IQ, performance IQ, full IQ, and subtests of arithmatic, and picture complation of WISC-R in children with ADHD. There was no other statistically significant corelation between the duration of breast-feeding and subtests of WISC-R and VMGT's score in children with ADHD. In whole group (ADHD and normals), significant negative corelation was observed between the duration of breast-feeding and the scores of DBD-STS. Conclusion: This study suggested that breast-feeding may have a protective role in ADHD, and benefits for mental development.
