Otistik Çocukların Ana Babalarında Frontal Loba Özgü Nörobilişsel Özellikler

Amaç: Bu çalışmada otistik bozukluğu (OB) olan çocukların ana babalarında frontal lob ile ilgili bilişsel becerilerin araştırılması amaçlanmıştır.
Yöntem: Çalışmaya çocuk ve ergen ruh sağlığı polikliniğinde izlenmekte olan, 4-18 yaş aralığında, DSM-IV tanı ölçütlerine göre OB tanısı almış 32 çocuğun anne ve babası (n=64) katılmıştır. Down Sendromlu (DS) 30 çocuğun anne ve babası (n=60) kontrol grubu olarak seçilmiştir. Her iki gruba yürütücü işlevler, dikkat, inhibisyon ve zeka işlevlerini değerlendiren Wisconsin Kart Eşleme (WCST), Stroop ve Wechsler Yetişkin Zeka Testi (WAIS) uygulanmıştır.
Bulgular: Yürütücü işlevleri değerlendiren WCST'de araştırma grubu anneleri kontrol grubu annelerinden anlamlı derecede daha iyi performans göstermişlerdir. Dikkat ve inhibisyon becerisini ölçen Stroop testinde gruplar arasında farklılık gözlenmemiştir. WAIS'de, araştırma ve kontrol grubu ana babaları arasında sözel ve performans zeka bölümleri (ZB) açısından farklılık bulunmamıştır. Şiddetli derecede otistik belirtiler gösteren çocukların babaları WAIS alt testlerinin bir kısmında daha iyi performans gösterseler de, bunlar ZB puanlarına yansımamıştır.
Sonuç: Bulgular OB'li çocukların ana babalarında bazı bilişsel avantajlar olabileceğini düşündürmekle birlikte; frontal loba özgü net bir bilişsel profil akla getirmemektedir. İleride düzenlenecek çalışmalarda hem otistik bireylerin ana babalarında gözlenen bilişsel özellikler hem de bunların nörobiyolojik temellerinin araştırılmasına gereksinim duyulmaktadır.
Neurocognitive Features of the Frontal Lobe in Parents of Autistic Children
Objective: The aim of this study was to examine the neurocognitive functions of the frontal lobe in parents of autistic children.
Method: The study group included 64 parents of children (aged 4-18 [year]s) diagnosed with autism, according to DSM-IV criteria, that were followed-up at the child and adolescent psychiatry outpatient clinic. Parents of children with Down syndrome (n = 60) were selected as the control group. We administered the Wisconsin Card Sorting Test (WCST), Stroop Test, and Wechsler Adult Intelligence Test (WAIS) to both groups in order to evaluate executive functions, attention, inhibition, and intelligence.
Results: Mothers of children with autism performed better than the control group mothers on the executive function measures of WCST. There were no group differences in Stroop Test measures of attention and inhibition, or in the verbal and performance intelligence subtests of WAIS. Fathers of children with severe autistic symptoms performed better on some WAIS subtests compared to other; however, there were no significant differences in IQ between the parents in both groups.
Conclusion: The results suggest that parents of autistic children could display different cognitive styles, but we did not observe any distinctive cognitive profile pertaining to frontal lobe functions. The cognitive ability of parents of autistic children and its neurobiological basis should be further investigated.
