Amaç: Aileleriyle birlikte Diyarbakır il merkezine göç eden bir grup lise öğrencisinde ruhsal belirtilerin cinsiyet ile ilişkisinin araştırılması amaçlandı. Yöntem: Çalışma Mart 1999'da Diyarbakır'ın yoğun göç alan bir semtindeki bir lisede yapıldı. Son 10 yıl içinde göç yaşayan 111 öğrenci (32 kız, 79 erkek) çalışma grubunu oluşturdu. Kontrol grubu olarak aynı sınıflardan 145 öğrenci (52 kız, 93 erkek) alındı. Tüm öğrencilere SCL-90-R, Beck Depresyon Envanteri (BDE), Sürekli Kaygı Ölçeği (SKÖ) ve sosyodemografik bilgi formu verildi. Bulgular: Öğrencilerin %65'i kendi istekleriyle göç ettiklerini bildirdi. Erkekelrin %38'i, Kızların %28'i zorunlu göç bildirdi. Göç yaşayan kız öğrencilerin SKÖ puan ortalamaları, göç yaşayan erkek öğrencilerinkinden anlamlı derecede yüksekti. Çalışma ve kontrol grubu kızların diğer ölçek puanları arasındaki fark anlamlı değildi. Göç yaşayan erkeklerde BDE dışındaki ölçeklerin puan ortalamaları göç etmeyen erkeklerden yüksek bulundu. Zorunlu göç yaşantısının kızlarda; öfke-düşmanlık ve psikotizm, erkeklerde genelleşmiş anksiyete, obsesif kompulsif, kişilerarası ilişkilerde duyarlılık ve psikotizm belirtilerinde artışa neden olduğu saptandı. Tartışma: Dört grupta da anksiyete ve depresyon puanlarının oldukça yüksek olması, bölgemizde son yıllarda yaşanan sosyal huzursuzluklardan bütün öğrencilerin etkilenmiş olabileceğini düşündürmüştür. Her iki gruptaki kızların genelleşmiş anksiyete düzeyleri erkeklerden yüksektir. Zorunlu göç yaşantısı cinsiyete göre farklı belirtilere neden olabilmektedir. Göç yaşayan erkek öğrencilerin psikososyal yardıma daha fazla gereksinimleri olduğu söylenebilir.

Objective: To investigate the relationship between the severity of psychiatric symptoms and gender in a group of high school students who were migrated to Diyarbakir with their families. Method: The study was conducted at a high school located in a district of Diyarbakir where students were exposed to severe migration, in March 1999. The study group was consisted of 111 students (32 female, 79 male) who had migrated in the last 10 [year]s and 145 students (52 female, 93 male) from the same classes were constituted the control group. SCL-90-R, Beck Depression Inventory (BDI), State-Trait Anxiety Inventory-2 (STAI-2), and a demographic information form were applied to all students. Results: About 65% of students reported willingly migration, 38% of boys and 28% of girls reported forced migration. Mean STAI-2 points of girls were higher than those of boys, who were exposed to migration. There was no difference betwen the study group and the control grouip with regard to the test results of girls. The overall means of inventory points, except BDI, were higher in the migrated boys than those of boys who did not migrated. It was established that forced migration caused an increase in anger and hostility and psychotism symptoms in the migrated girls; and in increase in generalized anxiety, obsessive compulsive, interpersonal sensitivity and psychotism, symptoms in the migrated boys. Conclusion: High anxiety and depression points in all four groups were considered that all students may affected by social problems which occured in our region in the last two decades. The generalized anxiety points of girls in both groups were higher than those of boys. Forced migration may cause different symptoms in males and females. It may be proposed that male students need more psychosocial support than female students.
