Elektro konvulsif terapi öncesi naproksen sodyum uygulaması nın tedavi memnuniyeti ve baş ağrısı yan etkisi üzerine kısa dönemdeki etkinliği: Bir ön çalışma

Amaç: Elektro konvulsif terapi günümüz çağdaş psikiyatrisinde çok önemli bir yere sahiptir. Bu tedavide en sık görülen yan etkilerden birisi de baş ağrısıdır. Bu çalışmada EKT uygulanan hastalarda EKT öncesi naproksen-sodyum uygulanmasının baş ağrısı ve tedavi memnuniyetine etkisini araştırmak amaçlanmıştır. Yöntem: Çalışma prospektif, randomize tek-kör olarak tasarlanmıştır. Çalışma grubunu oluşturan 20 hastaya birinci ve ikinci EKT’den 90 dakika önce, 550 mg naproksen sodyum, kontrol grubundaki 20 hastaya ise plasebo (toz glikoz) verilmiştir. Elektrokonvulsif terapi bitiminden 30 dakika sonra Görsel Analog Skorlama (GAS) ve EKT seansları sonlandı rılıp tedavisi bittiğinde Tedaviden Memnuniyet Ölçeği uygulanmı ştır. Bulgular: Gruplar; GAS ile karşılaştırıldığında plasebo grubunda EKT sonrası baş ağrısı görülme sıklığının çalışma grubuna göre anlamlı derecede yüksek olduğu gözlenmiştir (p<0,001). Ayrıca, EKT seansları sona erdiğinde çalışma grubunun tedavi memnuniyeti plasebo grubuna göre daha yüksek bulunmuştur (p<0,001). Sonuçlar: EKT seansı öncesi naproksen verilmesi tedavi sonrası sık görülen baş ağrısı sıklığını azaltmakta, hastaların tedavi memnuniyetini arttırmaktadır. Bununla birlikte elektro konvulsif tedaviye bağlı yan etkileri daha da azaltabilmek için farklı ilaç kombinasyonları ile daha geniş katılımlı çalışmalara ihtiyaç vardır.
The short term effects of naproxen sodium on treatment satisfaction and headache as a side-effect of electroconvulsive therapy: A preliminary study
Objective: Electroconvulsive therapy (ECT) has a prominent place in
current psychiatry. One of the most common side effects of this
therapy is headache. In this study, it was aimed to evaluate the effects
of naproxen sodium given prior to ECT on headache and treatment
satisfaction.
Methods: The study was designed as prospective, randomized and
blind. Twenty patients received 550 mg of naproxen sodium 90
minutes before the first and second ECT sessions while the patients in
the control group received placebo (powdered glucose). Visual
Analog Scale (VAS) was applied 30 minutes after the session and
Treatment Satisfaction Scale was applied at the end of treatment.
Results: The frequency of headache in the placebo group was
significantly higher than that of the naproxen-treated (p<0.001). At the
end of ECT sessions treatment satisfaction of naproxen-treated group
was higher compared to the placebo group (p<0.001).
Conclusions: Naproxen given prior to ECT sessions decreases the
incidence of headache while increasing treatment satisfaction.
Studies with larger samples and different drug combinations are
needed for further decrease of side effects of ECT.
