Toplumbilim, suç olgusunu anlamaya dönük olarak kendi içerisinden kriminoloji gibi çalışmaları desteklemiş ve bireysel düzlemde suç olgusuna yeni yaklaşımlar getirmiştir. Bu özel alanlardan en önemlisi ve en tartışmalı olan bir tanesi de son dönemlerde daha çok gelişmiş ülkelerde kendisine yer edinen Adli Toplumbilim alanıdır. Bu alan, en özet ifadesi ile adli makamların delil toplanmasından suçlunun yargılanması aşamasına kadar olan tüm süreçlerde suçun sosyal, kültürel ve etnik dinamiklerine dair önemli bilgiler sağlamaktadır. Sosyal olgulardan hareketle, tümden gelimsel yöntemlerle hareket eden Toplumbilim ile tümevarım yöntemi ile parçaları birleştirerek suçu ve suçluyu tespit etmeye çalışan adli yaklaşımların birbirine bağlanmasında Adli Toplumbilim son derece büyük bir önem arz eden bir inceleme ve uygulama alanıdır.

Sociology has developed new approaches towards understanding the dimensions of criminal act and delinquency by developing a sub-field from inside, Criminology. One of the very decisive and controversial sub-fields of Sociology is Forensic Sociology that is highly fashionable within the developed countries recently. In its brief description, the Forensic Sociology is to provide the information over the social, cultural and political roots of criminal act or delinquency during the collecting evidence, constructing the findings, personalizing the evidences and judging the criminal. Forensic Sociology is substantially important sub-field in connecting the Sociology using the deductive methods in understanding the individual choices with the Forensic Sciences depending on the inductive way of constructing the criminal understanding of individual acts.
