Depresyon diğer psikiyatrik bozukluklara en sık eşlik eden bozukluktur. Majör depresif bozukluğu olan hastaların %79’unda en az bir diğer ruhsal bozukluk birlikte görülür. Komorbidite oranı anksiyete bozuklukları için %57, alkol kullanım bozuklukları için %25 ve kişilik bozuklukları için %44 olarak bulunmuştur. Diğer bozuklukların bulunması tedavi planını etkileyeceği için klinik olarak önem taşımaktadır. Komorbidite daha ağır bozulma, daha fazla tedavi arayışı ve daha kötü sonlanma ile ilişkilidir. Ayrıca, bu olgularda tedaviye cevap daha düşük olmaktadır.
Depression and Comorbidity
Depressive disorder is one of the most common comorbid conditions with other disorders. The great majority (79%) of patients with depression suffered from one or more current comorbid mental disorders, including anxiety disorder (57%), alcohol use disorder (25%), and personality disorder (44%). Recognition of comorbid conditions in patients presenting for the treatment of depression is clinically important because the presence of other disorders can influence treatment planning. Comorbidity is associated with greater impairment, more treatment seeking, and worse outcome among persons with depressive disorders compared with pure depressive disorders. Patients with depressive disorders and coexisting conditions respond less well to psychological and pharmacologic treatment, but, for those who do respond, treatment for the primary disorder often also produces improvement in comorbid conditions.
