Play is the singular central activity of childhood occurring at all times and in all places. Play is spontaneous, enjoyable and voluntary. Play gives concrete form and expression to children's inner worlds. Play is to the child what verbalization is to the adult. Psychotherapy with children was first attempted by Freud in an attempt to alleviate the phobic reaction of Little Hans. Play was not directly in¬corporated into the therapy of children until Hermine Hug-Hellmuth used it. Then Anna Freud and Melanie Klein began to employ technique of play. Between the 1930s and the 1950s, the number of child therapy theories and techniques grew rapidly; Psychoanalytic Play Therapy,Release Play Therapy, Relationship Play Therapy and Behavioral Play Therapy and Non- directive play therapy. In the case of E, non-directive play therapy techniques are used. The techniques differ from other play interventions and therapies primarily because the choice of issues and activity in the playroom is determined by the child within certain basic limits set by the therapist.Child has the freedom and room to state himself in his own terms,in his own way and in his own time.
