This paper mainly tries to explain the conditions for the development and maintenance of severe psychosomatic problems in children. The predisposition for psychosomatic illness, the symptom choice and the prognosis are discussed as well as the differences from adult psychosomatic pathology. The article also includes the differential diagnosis of psychosomatic symptoms from hysterical conversions and the necessary therapeutical approaches.
