Bu makalede Bilişsel Terapinin (BT) depresyon tedavisindeki yeri, akut tedavideki etkinlik ve yinelemeleri önlemedeki rolünü içerecek şekilde tartışılmıştır. Depresyonun psikolojik tedavileri arasında deneysel olarak etkinliği en çok gösterilmiş olan psikoterapi türü BT’dir. Hafif ve orta şiddette akut majör depresyonun tedavisinde BT kullanımına ilişkin önemli ölçüde deneysel kanıtlar bulunmaktadır. Diğer psikoterapilerle karşılaştırıldığında davranış terapisi ve kişilerarası terapiyle yaklaşık olarak eşit etkili diğer tür psikoterapilerden ise daha üstün olduğu gösterilmiştir. BT antidepresan sürdürüm tedavisine benzer biçimde depresif yinelemeleri önleyebilir. Klinik çalışmalarda akut depresif dönemde (ilaçla birlikte ya da tek başına) etkili olan BT’nin tedavi sona erdirildikten sonraki dönemde yineleme riskini azalttığını göstermiştir.

This article discusses Cognitive Therapy (CT) for depression including evidence for efficacy in acute treatment and preventing relapses. In psychological treatment of depression CT is the most empirically supported form of psychotherapy. There is considerable empirical support for the use of CT in the treatment of mild to moderate severe acute major depression. In comparison to the other psychotherapies, CT has been shown to be approximately equal to Behavioral and Interpersonal therapies but superior the other psychotherapies. CT also may reduce future depressive relapses and recurrences like antidepressants maintenance therapy. Clinical studies showed that treatment with CT during the acute phase of the depressive episode (either alone or with medications) may reduce the risk of relapse following treatment termination.
