Amaç: Bu çalışmada gençlerin benlik saygısı düzeyleri ile anne baba tutumlarını algılamalarının incelenmesi amaçlanmıştır. Ayrıca bazı değişkenlerin gencin benlik saygısı düzeyinde ev anne-baba tutumlarını algılamasında farklılık yaratıp yaratmadığının ve benlik saygısı ile anne baba tutumları arasındaki ilişkinin incelenmesi de araştırmanın diğer amacını oluşturmaktadır. Yöntem: Araştırma Ankara'da bulunan, alt ve üst sosyoekonomik düzeydeki dört lisenin ikinci sınıflarına devam eden toplam 299 genç üzerinde yürütülmüştür. Gençlere "Anne Baba Tutum Ölçeği" ile "Rosenberg Benlik Saygısı Ölçeği" uygulanmıştır. Sonuç: Araştırma sonucunda: gencin cinsiyetinin algılanan demokratik ve ilgisiz, sosyo-ekonomik düzeyin demokratik otoriter ve ilgisiz, annenin çalışma durumunun demokratik, doğum sırası ve kardeş sayısının otoriter ve ilgisiz anne-baba tutumlarında, sosyoekonomik düzey ile doğum sırasının ise gencin benlik saygısında farklılık yarattığı saptanmıştır. Araştırmada ayrıca algılanan anne baba tutumları ile gencin benlik saygısı arasındaki korelasyon test edilmiş ve önerilerde bulunulmuştur. Tartışma: Araştırma sonuçları gencin benlik saygısı ile anne baba tutumları arasında anlamlı bir ilişki olduğunu göstermektedir. Birçok çalışmada da görüldüğü gibi; demokratik anne-baba tutumu gencin yüksek özsaygıya sahip olmasına neden olurken, otoriter ve ilgisiz tutum düşük özsaygıya yol açmaktadır. Algılanan olumlu ebeveyn tutumlarının gencin kendisi hakkında olumlu duygular geliştirmesine yol açtığı söylenebilir.

Objective: The purpose of this study was to investigate the adolescents' level of self-esteem and their perceptions about parental attitudes. And also it is aimed to investigate whether some variables make diffrences on these subjects or not and the correlation between self-esteem and parental attitudes. Method: This study was conducted on total 299 adolescents attending second grades of four high schools from low and high socioeconomical levels districts of Ankara province. "Parental Attitudes Inventory" and "Rosenberg Self-Esteem Scale" were used for measuring. Results: The results of the study show that, gender of adolescent has important effect on perceived democratic and unintrested attitudes, socioeconomic level has important effect on democratic, unintersted, and strict attitudes, mother working status has important effect on democratic attitudes, birth order and number of siblings have important effects on strict and unintrested attitudes while socioeconomic level and birth order have important effects on self-esteem. In addition to these results, the correlation was tested between perceived parental attitudes and self-esteem and suggestions were made. Discussion: Results of this study indicated that the correlation between adolescents self-esteem and parental attitudes was remarkable. As in many other studies, while democratic parental attitudes cause high self-esteem, unintrested and strict attitudes cause lower self-esteem. It is apparent that, the more parents have positive attitudes, the more adolescents have positive sense about himself.
