Monoamin varsayımı depresyonun santral sinir sisteminde nöronal sinapslardaki serotonin ve/veya noradrenalin eksikliğinden kaynak­landığını ileri sürmektedir. Son yıllarda bu varsayım depresyonun eti-yolojisini açıklamadaki yeterliliği açısından sorgulanmaktadır. Dep­resyonun oluşumunda beynin nöroplastisite kapasitesindeki yetersiz­liğin rol oynadığını öne süren görüş önem kazanmaktadır. Nöroplas­tisite santral sinir sisteminin dünyadaki değişimlere uyum gösterebil­me yeteneğidir. Beynin öğrenme, unutma ve hatırlama yeteneklerine işaret eder. Beyindeki nöronlar ve oluşturdukları sinapsların vücudun içinden ve dışından gelen uyaranlara bağlı olarak gösterdikleri yapı­sal ve işlevsel değişiklikleri kapsar. Bu derleme yazısında bazı faktör­lerin (LTP, LTD, sAMP, protein kinaz, CREBP, BDNFI nöroplastisite ve depresyonla ilişkisini gösteren literatürler gözden geçirildi. Depresyon ile beynin nöroplastisite yeteneğindeki bozulma arasındaki ilişki açık­lanmaya çalışıldı. Nöroplastisite ile ilgili bu bilgilerin aydınlık kazan­ması ileride depresyon tedavisi için yeni ilaçların geliştirilmesine yar­dımcı olacaktır.

The monoamine hypothesis claims that depression is a result of deficiency of serotonin and/or noradrenaline in the neuronal synapses of the central nervous system. In recent [year]s the effectiveness of explaining the etiology of depression by this hypothesis has been critically examined. The contribution of disability in the neuroplasticity of the brain in the causation of depressive disorder has gained importance. Neuroplasticity is an ability of the central nervous system to adapt to a changing world. It contributes to the brain functions of learning, forgetting and remembering. It comprises structural and functional changes of the neurons and neuronal synapses of the brain according to the impulses coming from inside and outside of the body. In this article the relationships of some factors (LTP, LTD, sAMP, protein kinases, CREBP, BDNFI in neuroplasticity and depression are reviewed. A relationship between depression and disturbance of the neuroplasticity ability of the brain is suggested. Clarification of these developments and their relationship to neuroplasticity may help develop new drugs in the future for the treatment of depression
