Bir Grup Üniversite Öğrencisinde Yeme Tutumu ile Obsesif Kompulsif Belirtiler, Aleksitimi ve Cinsiyet Rolleri Arasındaki İlişki

Amaç: Bu Çalışmada Kocaeli Üniversitesi'nde okuyan 164'ü (%53.9) erkek, 140'ı (%46.1) kız, toplam 304 öğrencide yeme tutumları ile obsesif kompulsif belirtiler, aleksitimi ve cinsiyet rolleri arasındaki ilişki araştırılmıştır. Yöntem: Çalışmada Yeme Tutum Testi (YTT), Maudsley Obsesif Kompulsif Soru Listesi (MOKSL), Toronto Aleksitimi Ölçeği (TAÖ) ve Bem Cinsiyet Rolü Envanteri (BEM) kullanılmıştır. Sonuç: Analizler YTT üzerine cinsiyet ve aylık gelir düzeyinin önemli etkisi olduğunu göstermiştir.: kızlarda ve yüksek gelir düzeyine sahip olanlarda YTT puanları daha yüksektir. YTT ve MOKSL toplam ve kontrol, temizlik, yavaşlık alt ölçekleri puanları arasında pozitif korelasyon bulunmuştur. TAÖ puanları ile YTT puanları arasında anlamlı korelasyon yoktur; ancak TAÖ'de "duyguları ve bedensel duyumları tanımada güçlük" ile ilgili maddeler YTT puanları ile ilişkilidir. Kızlarda erkeklik puanları YTT puanları ile pozitif korelasyon gösterirken, cinsiyet rolü yönelimi ile YTT puanları arasında her iki cinste de anlamlı ilişki bulunmamıştır. Tartışma: Sonuçlar obsesif kompulsif belirtilerin, özellikle de kontrol, temizlik ve yavaşlığın yeme tutumları ile ilgili olduğunu göstermektedir. Duygularını ve bedensel duyumlarını ayırtetmede güçlük çekenlerin YTT'de daha yüksek puanlar almaları kimi aleksitimik özelliklerin yeme bozukluklarına yatkınlık sağladığını gösterebilir. Kız öğrencilerde BEM'de erkeklik puanları yükseldikçe YTT puanlarının da yükselmesi kadınlığın reddi ile açıklanabilir.
The Relationship Between Eating Attitudues and Obsessive Compulsive Symptoms, Alexithymia and Sex Roles in a Group of University Students
Objective: In this study, the relationships between eating attitudes, and obsessive-compulsive symptoms, alexithymia and sex roles were investigated among 164 (53.9%) male, 140 (46.1%) feamle, total 304 students from Kocaeli University. Method: The Eating Attitudes Test (EAT), Maudsley Obsessive-Compulsive Inventory (MOCI), Toronto Alexithymia Scale (TAS), and Bem Sex Role Inventory (BEM) were used. Result: Analyses conducted on the EAT revealed a main effect for gender and level of [month]ly income. Female gender and higher [month]ly income were associated with higher scores on the EAT. The scores of the EAT nad MOCI total and contol, cleanliness and slowness subscales were positively correlated. The scores of TAS did not show a significant correlation with the scores of the EAT; but the items on TAS reflecting "difficulty differentiation betwen feelings and bodily sensations" were related to higher scores on EAT. The masculinity scores on BEM were positively correlated with the scores of EAT among females, but there were no significant differences on EAT according to sexual orientation among both gender. Discussion: The results indicated that obsessive compulsive symptoms, particularly control behaviors, cleanliness and slowness were related to the eating attitudes. The subjects who were less able to differentiate their feelings and bodily sensations tended to have higher scores on EAT indicating that some alexithymic characteristics may represent a vulnerability to eating disorders. The positive correlation of dysfunctional eating attitudes and the masculinity scores on BEM among females can be explained through the "rejection of feminity".
