Burada İstanbul Üniversitesi, İstanbul Tıp Fakültesine 1995 yılında ailesi tarafından getirilen 14 yaşındaki bir erkek olgudan söz edilmektedir. Olgunun yapılan muayenesi sonucunda önce depresyon, daha sonra da psikotik bir süreç düşünülerek tedavisine başlanmış, ancak tedaviden yarar sağlanamaması nedeniyle semptomları (özellikle aşırı iştah ve uykuya yönelme) literatürdeki bilgiler ışığında yeniden değerlendirilmiş ve Klein Levin sendromu kanısına varılmıştır. Olgunun tedavisini imipramin ve lityum kombinasyonu ile başlanmış, semptomlarında belirgin düzelme görülmüş ve hastanın devam eden tedavi ve kontrolleri sonucunda bir yıl süreyle semptomsuz kaldığı belirlenmiştir. Bu nedenle ilk bakışta depresyon ve psikoz gibi görünen olgularda özellikle aşırı iştah ve uykuya yönelme söz konusu ise Klein Levin sendromu düşünülerek ayırıcı tanısının yapılması erken tedavi ve prognoz açısından fayda sağlayacaktır.

The patient is a 14 [year]s old male, who has been brought to medical faculty of the University of Istanbul by his parents in 1995. The examiation suggested that depression and later on a psychotic process; the treatment however, did not reveal beneficial results so that the symptomatology (namely intense appetite and somnolance) was reassessed in the light of the literature on the subject leading to the diagnosis of the Klein-Levin Syndrome. Subsuquently treatment was initiated with a combination of imipramine and lithium resulting in significant amelioration of the symptoms. On follow-up, the patient was symptom-free for one [year]. For this reason, in cases suggesting depression or psychosis , espically in the presence of increased appetite and somnolance. The possibility of the Klein Levin Syndrome should also be taken in account for diffrential diagnosis, thus being beneficial for early diagnosis and prognosis.
