Amaç: Araştırma, müziğin kemoterapi yan etkilerine ve kaygı düzeyine etkisini incelemek amacı ile planlanmıştır. Yöntem: Ege Üniversitesi Hastanesi Onkoloji Bilim Dalı’na başvuran hastalar araştırmanın evrenini, sınırlamalara uygun olarak seçilmiş 30 hasta deney grubunu, 30 hasta kontrol grubunu oluşturmuştur. Bu deneysel çalışmada araştırma verileri, Durumluk-Sürekli Kaygı Envanteri, Kanser Semptomları Envanteri ve Kemoterapi Yan Etkileri Envanteri ile toplanmıştır. Deney grubundaki kanser hastalarına, kemoterapi ile kombine edilen alternatif tedavi prosedürü üç kez uygulanmış, kontrol grubuna uygulanmamıştır. Verilerin analizinde ki-kare, ANOVA ve korelas-yon analizleri kullanılmıştır. Bulgular: Deney grubundaki hastaların kemoterapi yan etkileri ile müziğin etkileşimi istatistiksel olarak anlamlı bulunmazken (p>0.05), durumluk kaygı ortalama puanları ile müziğin etkileşimi anlamlı bulunmuştur (p<0.001). Tartışma: Zamanlarının büyük bir bölümünü hastanede geçirmek zorunda olan, yaşamı tehdit eden ya da terminal dönemdeki bir hastalığa sahip olan bireyler için yaşanan belirtilerin olumsuz etkilerinin azalması ya da pozitif psikososyal desteğin yararlı ve zahmete değer olduğuna inanılarak, kanser hastaları için uygun bir atmosfer yaratmak amacı ile alternatif terapötik yaklaşımlar olarak algılanan farklı bağımsız hemşirelik girişimlerinden biri olan müzik terapisini hemşirelik uygulamalarına katmak gerekmektedir.

Objective: This purpose of this research is to investigate the influence of music on anxiety level and the side effects on the acute patients undergoing chemotherapy. Methods: The research data is obtained by using Patient Identification Form, State-Trait Anxiety Inventory, Cancer Symptoms Inventory and Chemotherapy Side Effect Inventory on both sample (N=30) and control (N=30) groups. While, the cancer patients in the sample group had undergone the alternative therapy for three times, the control group was excluded. For the assessment of the research data, chi-square, ANOVA and correlation analysis were carried out. Result: The findings indicated that, music has a meaningful relation with respect to anxiety states of the sample group (p>0.05), and had no such a relation for the side effects of chemotherapy (p<0.001). Conclusion: The investigation showed that, the clinical use of music as an alternative therapy has positive results in the reduction of anxiety in the patients and it is recommended to include the music therapy to regular nursing practices.
