Amaç: Bu çalışmanın amacı, annelere çocukluklarında uygulanan ceza yöntemleri ile çocuklarına uyguladıkları ceza yöntemleri arasındaki ilişkiyi değerlendirmektir. Yöntem: Beş-on dört yaşları arasında çocuğa sahip olan 200 anne örneklem grubumuzu oluşturmuştur. Bu çalışma İstanbul Üniversitesi Cerrahpaşa Tıp Fakültesi, İstanbul Üniversitesi İstanbul Tıp Fakültesi ve Haydar Paşa Numune Hastanesi’nin çocuk polikliniklerinde yapılmıştır. Çalışmanın verileri araştırmacılar tarafından geliştirilen annelerin demografik özelliklerini ve ceza yöntemlerinin özelliklerini içeren bir anket formu ile toplanmıştır. Veriler bilgisayar ortamında değerlendirilmiş olup istatistiksel analizleri yüzdelik ve ki-kare testi ile yapılmıştır. Sonuçlar: Araştırma kapsamına alınan annelerin %34’ünün 26-33 yaşları arasında olduğu, %26.5’inin ilkokul mezunu olduğu ve %60.5’inin herhangi bir işte çalışmadığı saptanmıştır. Annelerin %56’sı kendilerini yardımsever bir kişi olarak tanımlamış ve %57.2’si kendi sorunlarını çoğunlukla ağlayarak çözdüğünü belirtmiştir. Annelerin %72’si çocukluk döneminin iyi geçtiğini ve %88’i bu dönemi anne ve babasıyla birlikte geçirdiğini belirtmiştir. Çocukluklarında, annelerin %40.5’i istediklerinin alınmaması şeklinde cezalandırıldığını, %49.5’i kendisini en çok etkileyen ceza yönteminin dövme olduğunu ve %44’ü çoğunlukla annesi tarafından cezalandırıldığını belirtmiştir. Annelerin %56’sının çocuklarını öfkeyle yüksek sesle bağırırarak cezalandırdığı; %50’sinin çocuklarına bu cezaları vermedeki amaçlarının eğitim, otorite, disiplin, saygı ve sorumluluğun öğretilmesi olduğu; annelerin %78’inin çocuğunun sorunlarını en çok paylaştıkları kişinin annesi olduğu ve %57’sinin çocuklarından saygılı, çalışkan, itaatkar, yardımsever ve dürüst olma gibi davranışları bekledikleri saptanmıştır. Tartışma: Bu çalışmadan elde edilen veriler doğrultusunda annelerin çocukluklarında kendilerine uygulanan ceza yöntemlerinden yararlı olduğunu düşündükleri ceza yöntemlerini kendi çocuklarına daha fazla uyguladıklar sonucu çıkarılmaktadır.

Objective: The aim of this study is to evaluate the relation between punishment methods that have been applied to mothers in their own childhood and punishment methods that mothers apply to their children. Methods: The sample was composed of 200 mothers that had children aged between 5-14 [year]s old. This study was performed in child polyclinic of Cerrahpasa Medical Faculty Hospital, Istanbul Medical Faculty Hospital and Haydar Pasa Numune Hospital. The data of the study was collected with a questionnaire developed by the researchers, which contain the demographic characteristics and punishment methods of the mothers. The data was evaluated in computer environment and its statistical analysis was made by using percentage and chi-square tests. Results: It was determined that 34% of the mothers within the scope of the study were between 26-33 [year]s old, 26.5% of them were graduated from primary school, 60.5% of them didn’t worked. 56% of the mothers described themselves as benevolent and 57.2% of them stated that they solved their problems mostly by crying. 72% of the mothers expressed that their own childhood had been good and 88% of them had been together with their own parents in their own childhood. It was determined that 40.5% of the mothers had been punished by not buying what they wanted, 49.5% them stated the most effective punishment method as beating and 44% of them had been mostly punished by their own mothers. It was determined that 56% of the mothers punished their children by shouting out angrily. 50% of the mothers expressed that purposes of their own punishment methods were to teach their own children the education, authority, discipline, respect, and responsibility. 78% of the mothers said that their own children shared most of their own problems with them, and 57% of the mothers wanted their own children to be respectful, hard working, dutiful, benevolent, and honest. Conclusion: In accordance with the data obtained from this study, it has been concluded that the mothers apply the punishment methods, which they consider more beneficial to their children from the punishment methods applied to the mothers in their own childhood.
