Amaç: Yoğun çalışma koşulları nedeniyle hava trafik kontrolörleri'nde (HTK) ruhsal belirtiler ve tükenmişlik sendromu (TS) yüksek oranda görülür ve TS önlenmesinde stresle başa çıkma teknikleri yararlıdır. Bu çalışmada, İzmir Adnan Menderes Havalimanı'nda HTK olan kişilerde stresle başa çıkma eğitiminin ruhsal belirtiler ve tükenmişlik düzeyine etkisinin araştırılması amaçlanmıştır. Yöntem: Çalışmaya Havalimanı'nda HTK 46 kişi, brifing bölümünden 30 kişi alındı. Çalışmanın ilk aşamasında her iki grup Beck Depresyon, Durumluluk-Sürekli Kaygı Envanterleri, İş Doyumu, Maslach Tükenmişlik ve Stresle Başa Çıkma Ölçekleriyle değerlendirildiler, ardından psikologlar tarafından bu kişilere stresle başa çıkma tekniklerinin anlatıldı, başlangıçta uygulanan testler tekrarlandı. Bulgular: Gruplar eğitim ve alkol kullanma oranları açısından farklıydı. İş doyumu, tükenmişlik, ruhsal belirtiler ve stresle başa çıkma özellikleri benzerdi. Eğitim ve egzersizlerle HTK grubunda depresyon, kontrol grubunda ise durumluluk anksiyete belirtilerinde azalma olduğu , iş doyumu ve stresle başa çıkma açısından iki grup arasında fark saptanmadı. TS açısından farklılıklar gözlendi. HTK grubunda TS puanlarının yüksekti. Stresle başa çıkma egzersizlerinin uygulanması her iki grupta düşüktü. Sonuç: Çeşitli çalışmalar stresle başa çıkma eğitimi, gevşeme egzersizlerinin HTK'de yararlı etkilerini göstermektedir. Bu çalışmada egzersizlerin yeterince uygulanmamasında motivasyon düşüklüğünün araştırılması, destek ve danışmanlık hizmetlerinin sürekli olması sonucuna varıldı.

Objective: Because of intensive working conditions, psychological symptoms and exhaution syndrome (ES) are highly common in Air Traffic Controllers (ATCs). Techniques to cope with stress are useful in prevention of E.S. In this study our aim was to see the effect of education to cope wih stress on psychological symptoms and exhaution levels. The study was held on ATCs working in Izmir Adnan Menderes Airport. Method: 46 people who were ATCs and 30 people from breefing deparment took part in the study. In the first stage of the study, both of the groups were evaluated by some tests including; Beck depression, State-Trade-Anxiety Inventory, job satisfaction, exhaution and coping with stress criterias of Maslach. After the tests, the techniques to cope with stress were told by the psycologists to all of the participants; and then the tests were repeated. Results: The groups were different in education, alcohol usage rates, where they were similar in job satisfaction, exhaution, psychological symptoms and coping with stress. After education and exercise, there was a decrease in depression in ATCs group, where the control group had a decrease in anxiety symptoms. There was no significant difference between the groups in job satisfaction and coping with stress. ATCs had greater ES points. Both of the groups failed in carrying out the exercises. Conclusion: Different studies shows the beneficial effects of education to cope with stress and relaxing exercises in ATCs. This study concluded that low motivation should be examined as a reason of people failing to carry out the exercises; where support and counselling services should be continuous.
