Amaç: Polio sonrasında birçok fiziksel soruna bağlı olarak günlük yaşam etkinliklerinde sıklıkla sorunlar yaşanmaktadır.
Bu çalışmanın amacı, polio sekeli olan hasta grubunda psikiyatrik belirtileri, işlevsel durumu ve yaşam
kalitesini araştırmaktır. Yöntem: Araştırmaya poliomyelit sekeli olan 72 hasta ve sağlıklı bireylerden oluşturulmuş
30 kişilik kontrol grubu alındı. İki gruba sosyodemografik bilgileri içeren sosyodemografik veri formu, Belirti Tarama
Listesi (SCL-90-R), Hamiton Depresyon Derecelendirme Ölçeği (HDDÖ), Hamilton Anksiyete Derecelendirme
Ölçeği (HADÖ) ve Dünya Sağlık Örgütü Yaşam Kalitesi Ölçeği Kısa Formu Türkçe Versiyonu (WHOQOL-BREF
TR) uygulandı. Bulgular: Polio grubunda SCL-90-R somatik belirtiler, anksiyete, kişilerarası ilişkilerde duyarlılık,
fobi ve genel belirti indeksi ile HADÖ puanları kontrol grubuna göre anlamlı derecede yüksek bulundu. Polio
grubunda WHOQOL-BREF fiziksel, sosyal, çevre alanı global, çevre alanı kültüre standardize alanlarındaki
yaşam kalitesi puanı kontrol grubundan anlamlı olarak düşük bulundu. Kadın polio sekeli olan hastaların erkeklere
göre SCL-90-R kişilerarası ilişkilerde duyarlılık, paranoid belirtiler alan puanları anlamlı olarak daha yüksek,
kültüre standardize ve global çevre alanlarındaki WHOQOL puanı anlamlı olarak daha düşük bulundu. Polio
sekeli olan hastalarda psikiyatrik belirtiler, depresyon ve anksiyete düzeyleri WHOQOL-BREF psikolojik, sosyal ve
çevre alanları puanları ile negatif ilişkili bulunmuştur. Sonuçlar: Polio sekeli hem fiziksel işlevleri etkilemekte, hem
de ruhsal işlevleri bozmaktadır. Çalışmamızın sonucunda polio sekeli olan hastaların yaşam kalitelerinin ciddi
olarak bozulduğu görülmektedir.

Objective: Problems in the daily life activities are frequent due to many physical problems following the polio disease.
In this study, psychiatric signs, functional status and life quality relationship in a group of patients with the
sequel of polio are investigated. Methods: Seventy-two patients with the sequel of poliomyelitis and a control
group of 30 healthy individuals are taken into this study. Sociodemographic data form which includes the sociodemographic
information, Symptom Check List (SCL-90-R), Hamilton Depression Rating Scale (HDRS) and
Hamilton Anxiety Rating Scale (HARS) and the World Health Organization Quality of Life Assessment-BREF
(WHOQOL-BREF) Turkish version are carried out in both groups. Results: In the polio group SCL-90-R
somatization, anxiety, interpersonal sensitivity, phobic anxiety and global symptom index and HDRS scores are
found to be significantly higher than the control group. In the polio group WHOQOL-BREF scores in the physical,
social, environment (global) domain are significantly lower than the control group. The SCL-90-R interpersonal sensitivity, paranoid ideation subscale scores were significantly higher and WHOQOL environment (culture
standardized) and environment (global) domain scores were significantly lower in female than the male patients
with polio sequel. The psychiatric symptoms and level of depression and anxiety were found negatively correlated
with WHOQOL-BREF psychological, social and environment domains scores in patients with polio sequel.
Conclusions: Polio sequel both affects the physical functions and interrupts psychological functions. As the
result of our study, it is observed that the life quality of the patients with the polio sequel is severely damaged.
