Amaç: Bu çalışmanın amacı İstanbul'da bir sağlık ocağı bölgesini hizmet almak için kullanan ka­dınlarda, ev içi fiziksel şiddete mâruz kalma ve çocuklarına fiziksel şiddet uygulama sıklıkları ile şid­det varlığını etkileyen faktörleri ortaya koymaktır.
Yöntem: Veriler Dudullu Sağlık Ocağı'na başvuran 146 kadına yüz yüze anket uygulanması yoluy­la toplanmıştır. Kadının fiziksel şiddete mâruz kalması ve çocuklarına şiddet uygulamasını etkileye­bilecek faktörler, hem tek hem de çok değişkenli analizlerde incelenmiştir.
Bulgular: Çalışmaya katılan kadınların %40.4'ü (%95GA: %32.5-48.3) kocaları tarafından fiziksel şiddete mâruz kaldıklarını belirtmişlerdir. Katılımcıların %76.7'si (%95GA: %69.9-83.5) çocuklarına fiziksel şiddet uyguladıklarını ifâde etmişlerdir. Çok değişkenli analizlerde, evlilik süresinin artma­sı (OR: 1.05, %95GA: 1.01-1.09), kadının eşinden gördüğü şiddeti onaylıyor olması (OR:3.38, %95GA: 1.15-9.95) ve kadın çocukken babasının annesine şiddet uyguluyor olması (OR:2.29, %95GA: 1.09-4.80) kadının eşi tarafından şiddete mâruz kalmasını artıran faktörler olarak belirlen­miştir. Çok değişkenli analizlerde, katılımcıların çocuklarına yönelik şiddet uygulamalarında önem­li olan faktörler ise çocuk sayısı (OR:1.82, %95GA: 1.14-2.92) ve eşin kadına şiddet uygulaması (OR:3.11, %95GA: 1.07-9.05) olarak saptanmıştır.
Tartışma ve Sonuç: Bu çalışmada ev içi şiddette erkeğin aile ortamında uyguladığı şiddetin ve ka­dının dayağı onaylayan tutumunun rol oynadığı gösterilmiştir. Özellikle ev kadınlarının hizmet al­mak için en çok sağlık kuruluşları ile temasa geçtikleri düşünüldüğünde, birinci basamak sağlık ku­ruluşlarında verilen ana çocuk sağlığı hizmetlerine bu konudaki danışmanlık hizmetlerinin enteg­re edilmesinin önemli olacağı düşünülmektedir. Ayrıca kadının güçlendirilmesi ve desteklenmesine yönelik sağlık dışı sektörleri de içine alan bir işbirliğine ihtiyaç vardır.

Objective: The aim of this study was to determine the women's rate of exposure to physical type of domestic violence and the rate of mothers' physical violence towards their children as well as the factors associated with battering among a population getting services from a primary health care center in Istanbul.
Method: The data was collected from 146 women in the Dudullu Primary Care Health Center thro­ugh face to face interviews. The factors associated with women's exposure to domestic violence and their violent behavior towards their children was evaluated by both univariate and multivari­ate methods.
Findings: 40.4% (95%CI: 32.5-48.3%) of the women stated that they were battered by their spo­uses. 76.7% (95%CI: 69.9-83.5%) of the participants expressed that they were practicing violent be­havior towards their children. In the multivariate analysis, increased duration of marriage (OR: 1.05, 95%CI: 1.01 -1.09), women's approval of the spouse's violence (OR: 3.38, 95%CI: 1.15-9.95) and the violent behavior of the woman's father towards her mother (OR: 2.29, 95%CI: 1.09-4.80) were the factors associated with women's exposure to spouse's violence. The factors related to the par­ticipants' violent behavior towards their children were the number of children (OR: 1.82, 95%CI: 1.14-2.92) and the spouses' violence towards the mother (OR: 3.11, 95%CI: 1.07-9.05). Discussion and Conclusion: This study determined that men's violent behavior at home and the approval of the violent behavior by the women were associated with domestic violence. It is im­portant to implement counseling related to domestic violence to the mother and child health ca­re services provided in the primary health care centers since housewives mostly get services from these institutions. There is also a need to empower and support women through a collaboration of the health with the other sectors.
