Dünyanın çeşitli bölgelerinde yaşanan afetlerin bireyler ve toplumlar üzerindeki etkisi, çeşitli alanlardaki bilim insan­ları ve meslek elemanlarının duyarlılığını arttırmış; bu konudaki çalışmalara hız verilmesine neden olmuştur. Ülkemizde de Marmara Depremi'nin ardından başlayan çalışmalar, giderek daha sistemli ve yerleşik bir duruma gelme aşamasın­dadır. Bu makalede, Türk Psikologlar Derneği'nin çalışmaları temel alınarak, ülkemizde psikoloji bilimi ve mesleğinin afetlere yönelik genel yaklaşımı sunulmaktadır.

In the recent [year]s, the impacts of disasters on individuals and societies have increased the sensitivity of the scientists and proffessions from various disciplines; so that the field of disasters became an important focus of interest. The efforts targeting disaster management having been progressing towards a more systematic structure through the [year]s follow­ing the Marmara earthquake. In the current article, a general framework regarding the perspective of psychology in Turkey as a proffession and as a scientific discipline based on the disaster related works of Turkish Psychological Association.
