Şizofreni gelişiminden sorumlu olan patofızyolojik düzenekler üzerine yapılmış çok sayıda araştırma olmasına karşın, saptanmış olan nörokimyasal anormalliklerin anlamı açıklığa kavuşmamıştır. Klozapinin kullanıma girmesiyle, şizofrenide görülen nörokimyasal işlev bozuklukları ve düzensizliklerine ilgi yeniden artmıştır. Bu gözden geçirme yazısında şizofrenideki beyin nöral iletisi konusundaki gelişmeler ve bu bulguların eski varsayımları nasıl değiştirdiği ele alınacaktır. Bu makale aynı zamanda şizofrenideki nörokimyasal anormalliklerin doğası konusunda öne sürülen bazı yeni görüşlere de odaklaşacaktır.

Despite huge amount of studies on the pathophysiological mechanisms involved in the development of schizophrenia, the significance of the identified neurochemical abnormalities remain obscure. After the introduction of clozapine there is a renewed interest in the role of neurochemical dysfunctions and dysregulations seen in schizophrenia. In this review recent advances on brain neural transmission in schizophrenia and how these findings revised the old hypothesis will be adressed. Article will also focus on some new integrative assertions put forth, on the nature of neurochemical abnormalities in schizophrenia.
