Amaç: Stresin insan yaşamı üzerindeki etkileri ile ilgili çalışmaların sayısı giderek artmaktadır. Bu yazının amacı, stres ve başa çıkma kavramları ile ilgili genel bilgiler vermek ve ergenlerde stresle başa çıkmanın etkileri ile ilgili çalışma sonuçlarını gözden geçirmektir. Yöntem: Ergenlerde stres ve başa çıkma ile ilgili çalışmalar yazından taranmış ve sonuçları değerlendirilmiştir. Sonuçlar: Yapılan çalışmalarda, ergenlik döneminde yaşanan stres etkenleri ve etkili başa çıkma örüntülerinin kullanılamamasının pek çok duygusal, ruhsal ve davranışsal sorun ile ilişkili olduğu belirlenmiştir. Tartışma: Çok farklı alanlarda birçok yeni stres etkeniyle karşılaşan ergenin, etkili başa çıkma örüntüleri edinmesi ve kullanmasının, ruhsal ve davranışsal sorunların önlenmesi ve tedavisinde yararlı olacağı sonucuna ulaşılmıştır.

The object of this review is to give general information about stress and coping and to review the results of the studies about the effects of coping with stress on adolescents. Method: The studies about the effects of coping with stress on adolescents were searched and their results were evaluated. Results: At the studies, it is indicated that absence of effective coping patterns are related to a series of physiological and behavioral problems. Discussion: It is concluded that having effective coping strategies and using them is important for an adolescent who faces with many stressful events in very afferent areas of life.
