Obstruktif uyku apnesi (OUA), üst solunum yolunda oluşan kollaps sonucu, hipopne, apne ve hemoglobinde oksijen desatürasyonunun meydana gelmesi ile karakterizedir. Oksijen desatürasyonu; kardiyovasküler ve pulmoner fonksiyonlarda değişikliğe neden olarak, sistemik hipertansiyon, aritmi ve tedavi edilmezse ani ölümlere neden olmaktadır. Uykudaki bölünme nedeniyle, hasta uykuyu tam alamamakta ve gündüz uyuklama halinde, iş gücünde azalma, günlük aktivitesinde düşme görülmektedir. OUA'nin etiyolojisi ile fızyopatolojisinin çok karışık olması nedeniyle spesifik bir tedavisi yoktur. Tıbbi veya cerrahi tedavi için, polisomnografı, fiberoptik endoskopik bakı ve sefalometrik analiz yapmak gerekmektedir. Bu nedenle hastalar uyku merkezlerinde multidisipliner yaklaşım ile değerlendirilmelidir. Bu makalede, obstruktif uyku apne tanısı için gerekli incelemeler ve uygulanan tedavi hakkında son gelişmeler özetlenmiştir.

Obstructive sleep apnea (OSA) is characterized by repeated collapse of the upper airway, producing hypopnea, apnea and oxygen desaturation of hemoglobin. Oxygen desaturation changes normal cardiovascular and pulmonary functions and leads to systemic hypertension, arrhythmia and if untreated leads to an early death. Disruption of the normal sleep patterns results excessive daytime sleepiness and effects the ability to work and the performance of normal daily activities.

There is no specific treatment of OSA, because the etiology and pathophysiology of OSA are very complex. The preoperative evaluation, which includes polysomnography, physical examination, fiberoptic pharyngoscopy and cephalometric analysis, is essential for the choice of medical or surgical therapy.

For the diagnosis and more effective treatment for OSA, a multidisciplinary approach is necessary in a sleep laboratory. This article summaries the treatment and the recent laboratory researches for the diagnosis obstructive sleep apnea.
