gruplarına oranla daha fazla uyku sorunları gösterirler. Tedaviye başlamadan

önce uykusuzluğa yol açabilecek fiziksel, sosyal ve psikiyatrik nedenlerin ortaya

konulması gerekir. Yaşlılar, gençlere oranla sedatif-hipnotikleri daha fazla

kullanırlar. Genelde hipnotiklerle tedavinin süresi kısa olmalı, birkaç haftayı

geçmemelidir.

The pattern of sleep changes considerably with advancing age. The elderly have more difficulty with sleep than any other age group. An accurate physical, social and psychiatric diagnosis is essential before treatment is instituted. Simple behavioural and life style changes should be made before specific pharmacotherapy. The elderly use more sedative-hypnotics than younger individuals. In general, the duration of treatment should be brief, perhaps no more than a few weeks.
