Özürlü Çocuğu Olan Anne Babaların Gereksinimlerinin Belirlenmesi

Bu çalışmada 24 maddelik Aile Gereksinimlerini Belirleme Aracı kullanılarak özürlü çocuğa sahip ailelerin temel gereksinimleri belirlenmeye çalışılmıştır. Bailey ve Simeonsson tarafından geliştirilen aracın faktör analizi yapılmış, güvenirliği hesaplanmış ve özürlü çocuğu olan 44 anne ile 45 babaya uygulanarak temel gereksinimler ve bu gereksinimleri etkileyen etmenler bulunmaya çalışılmıştır. Çalışma sonucunda, anne babaların sekiz madde için ortak gereksinim ifade ettikleri, özellikle bilgi gereksiniminin anne ve babaların çoğunluğu tarafından temel gereksinim olarak belirtildiği görülmüştür. Annelerin %90.9’u benzer özellikte çocuğu olan anne babalar hakkında yazılı materyal okuma gereksinimini, babaların %84'ü ise çocuğa bazı beceriler öğretebilme konusunda bilgi gereksinimini öncelikli gereksinim olarak ifade etmişlerdir. Aracın açık uçlu sorusundan anne babaların özel gereksinimleri hakkında ayrıntılı bilgi toplanabilmiş, çoğunluğunun çocuğun okula gidip gelebilmesi için servis ve çocuk için tüm gün okulu ailenin temel gereksinimleri olarak belirttikleri görülmüştür.
Assessment of the Needs of the Parents of Exceptional Children
In this study, needs of the parents of handicapped children and influences of the demographic characteristics on the needs are investigated. Family Needs Survey developed by Bailey and Simeonsson is used to determine parental needs. Turkish form, reliability and validity studies are presented in this paper. The sample consists of 44 mothers and 45 fathers of mentally handicapped and autistic children. The results showed that most of the mothers and fathers expressed the needs for information about child development, handicaps and how to teach, how to play with children. The open ended question on the Family Needs Survey provided information about needs of greatest priority for families. The transportation and whole day school are determined as the most important needs of the parents. Also, it is found that the demographic characteristics are not effective variables on the parental needs. These results are discussed in terms of the Turkish special education programs.
