Amaç: Bu çalışmada tamamlanmış intihar olgularında, sosyal güvence yokluğu, göç ve diğer psikososyal stresörlerin intihar için bir risk faktörü olup olmadığının araştırılması amaçlandı. Yöntem: 1.1.1996-31.6.1997 tarihleri arasındaki İstanbul ili polis kayıtları incelenerek intihar ederek hayatına son vermiş olanlar arasından daha önce Bakırköy Ruh ve Sinir Hastalıklar; Hastanesinde yatırılarak tedavi edilmiş olduğu saptanan 48 kişi ile aynı hastaneye yatırılarak tedavi edilmiş ve intihar öyküsü olmayan hastalardan tanı, yaş ve cinsiyetleri açısından benzer özellikler gösteren 45 kişilik kontrol grubu bir form kullanılarak araştırıldı. Sosyodemografik ve klinik verilerle psikososyal etmenlerin gruplar arasındaki dağılımı karşılaştırılarak incelendi. Bulgular: intihar grubunda herhangi bir sağlık güvencesi olmayanların oranı %72.9 iken, kontrol grubunda bu oran %35.6 olarak bulundu. Son beş yıl içinde meydana gelmiş göç olayı intihar grubunda %19.1 iken, kontrol grubunda %2.2 olarak saptandı. Tutuklanma, işten çıkarılma, boşanma, tecavüze uğrama vs. gibi diğer psiko-sosyal stresörler de intihar eden grupta %48.9, kontrol grubunda %13.3 olarak bulundu. Sonuç: Özellikle ülkemiz açısından güncel olan iç ve dış göç ve sosyal güvence sisteminin yetersizliği intihar olguları için riski artıran etmenler arasında önem taşımaktadır ve psikiyatrik hastalarda intihar riskini değerlendirirken dikkate alınmalıdırlar.

Object: In this study, we aimed to investigate whether there is a role of absence of social security, immigration history, and other psychosocial risk factors in committed suicides or not. Method: Between the dates 1.1.1996-31.6.1997police notes are reviewed about committed suicides in Istanbul. The persons in that list were classified whether they had been treated in Bakirköy Mental Hospital or not. The files of persons committed suicide who were treated there (n=48), were surveyed about the role of absence of social security, history of immigration and other psychosocicl risk factors with the aid of a form. Matched group (n=45) who didn't commit suicide but have same first axis diagnosis, same gender and age used as control group. Results: The patients who had no social security has been found 72.9% in suicide group and 35.6% in control group. Immigration history in last five [year]s has been found as 19.1% in suicide 2.2% control group. Other psychosocial stressors as conviction, being fired, divorce, and being raped are found 48.9%, 13.3% in suicide and control groups respectively. Conclusion: Especially for our country, factors such as inadequacy of social security system, immigration, increase the suicide risk of patients and should be considered cautiously in evaluation of the suicide risk of the patients in the treatment procedures.
