The relationships between the hypothalamus, limbic system and the thyroid gland from a neurophysiologic standpoint, and the existing literature about the psychic factors in hyperthyroidism have been reviewed. Furthermore, a psychodynamic explanation has been given for the pathogenesis of hyperthyroidism in the personal history of a case of anxiety neurosis, treated in our clinic. This explanation seems to confirm the already existing literature on the subject.
