Epileptik hastalarımızın % 4.6 sim oluşturan juvenil myoklonik epilepsili 156 hastanın verileri, hastalığın başlangıç yaşı, nöbet tipleri, EEG karakteristikleri, nöbetlerini presipite eden faktörler, ailede epilepsi öyküsü ve ilaç tedavisine cevap yönlerinden değenlendirildi. Myokloni ve tonik-klonik nöbetler % 75.6, myokloni ve absans nöbetleri % 1.9, her üç nöbet tipi % 3.2 ve sadece myokloni % 7.7 hastada olmaktaydı. Ortalama başlangıç yaşı 14.5 idi. Karakteristik saniyede 4-6 Hz frekanslı "multiple spike and wave" bulgusu sadece % 58 hastada görülürken, % 20 hastada normal bulundu. En önemli nöbet presipite eden faktörler uykusuzluk ve ani uyanma idi. Parsiyel epilepsili hasta grubumuz ile karşılaştırıldığında ailede epilepsi öyküsü anlamlı pozitifti. % 90 hastada valproat etkili olarak değerlendirildi, ömürboyu tedavi gerektirebilen kronik bir hastalık olmakla birlikte JME doğru tanı ve uygun tedavi ile kolayca kontrol edilebilmektedir.

Data from 156 patients with juvenile myoclonic epilepsy; representing % 4.6 of our population of epileptics, were analyzed retrospectively to assess the age of onset, seizure types, EEG characteristics, seizure precipitants, family history of epilepsy and the response to drug therapy. Myoclonic jerks and tonic-clonic seizures occurred in % 75.6, myoclonic jerks and absence seizures in % 1.9, all theree seizure types in % 3.2 and only myoclonic jerks in % 7.7 of the patients. The mean age at onset was 14.6 [year]s. Only % 58 of the patients showed the characteristic "multipl spike and wave" pattern with a 4-6 Hz frequency, while % 20 appeared normal, The most important seizure precipitants were sleep deprivation and sudden awakening. There was a significantly higher positive family history when compared with our partial epileptic population. Volproate was considered to be elfective in % 90 of the patients. Although JME is a chronic disorder that may require lifelong therapy, seizures in JME can be adequately controlled with accurate diagnosis and appropriate therapy.
