Şizofreninin pozitif ve negatif belirtilerini temel alan çok faktörlü bir model denemesi 51 şizofren hastayla yapılan çalışmada incelenmiştir. NBDÖ ve PBDÖ'nin dokuz alt ölçeği ve iki itemine (uygunsuz duygulanım ve konuşma içeriğinin fakirliği) uygulanan faktör analizi şizofrenik belirtilerin pozitif ve negatif olarak ayrımının uygun olmadığını göstermiştir. Kesitsel bir fenomenolojik yaklaşım kullanılarak, kronik şizofreniye ait dört sendrom önerilmiştir. Sonuç olarak; şizofrenik belirtilerin geçerli bir sınıflamasını yapmaktan uzak olduğumuz ve pozitif-negatif dikotomisinin bir basitleştirme olduğu söylenebilir.

51 schizophrenic patients were studied to examine the concept of a multifactorial model assay based on the positive and negative symptoms of schizophrenia. A factor analysis from the nine subscales of SANS and SAPS and two items (inappropriate affect and poverty of content of speech) of these scales suggest that schizophrenic symptoms cannot be appropriately classified into positive and negative syndromes. Using a cross-sectional phenomenological approach, four syndromes in chronic schizophrenia were proposed. As a results; It can be argued that we are far from a valid classification of schizophrenic symptoms and the positive-negative dichotomy appears to be an oversimplification.
