Yalan, zamandan bağımsız olarak sosyal olarak uygun bulunmayan bir davranış olarak süregelmiştir. Aileler çocuklarını yalan söylemenin yanlış olduğu öğretisiyle büyütmektedirler. Hatta bu öğreti çocuk masallarında da büyük bir yer tutmaktadır. Buna rağmen yalanın sosyal yönden kabul gördüğü hatta teşvik edildiği türlerinin olduğu da bilinmektedir. Bu çalışmada çocukların sosyal yönden kabul gören bu yalan türlerini (prososyal yalan) ne derecede uygun buldukları ile ebeveynlerinin tutumları ve ebeveynlerin benlik kurguları arasındaki bağlantılar incelenmiştir. Çalışmaya yaşları 9-13 arasında değişen toplam 129 çocuk ve anneleri dâhil edilmiştir. Ebeveyn tutumlarının ölçümünde “Anne-Babalık Stilleri ve Boyutları Ölçeği”, benlik kurgusunun ölçümünde “İlişkiselBireyci-Toplulukçu Benlik Ölçeği” ve çocukların prososyal yalanı uygun bulma düzeylerinin ölçümünde ise “Prososyal Yalanın Uygunluğu Testi – Çocuk Formu” kullanılmıştır. Çalışmanın sonuçları demokratik ve otoriter ebeveyn tutumlarının çocukların prososyal yalanı uygun bulma düzeyleri üzerinde anlamlı bir etkiye sahip olmadığını göstermektedir. Bununla birlikte ebeveynlerin izin verici tutumlarının artmasına bağlı olarak çocukların prososyal yalanın alt boyutu olan işbirlikçi yalanları uygun bulma düzeylerinin de arttığı sonucuna ulaşılmıştır. Lying, independently of the circumstances of the epoch, has never been approved as a positive social behavior. Parents raise their children with the notion that lying is unacceptable behavior. Furthermore, this notion has a significant place in fairy tales. On the other hand, it is known that some kinds of lies are reasonable, and are even encouraged socially. In this study, the parenting styles and self-construal of parents factors affecting the reasonability level of prosocial lies in children between 9-13 age-old were investigated. A total of 129 children between the ages of 9-13 and their mothers participated in the study. The “Parenting Styles and Dimensions Questionnaire” was applied to the mothers to evaluate the parenting styles, and also the “Relational Individual Collective Self-Aspects Scale” was used to evaluate the self-construal. In addition, “The Reasonability of Prosocial Lie Test-Child Form” was used to evaluate the level of acceptability of lies by the children. The results of the study showed that authoritative and authoritarian parenting styles did not have any significant effects on the reasonability level of prosocial lies in children. Moreover, it was found that an increase in the reasonability level of collaborative lies, which is one of the sub-dimensions of prosocial lies, depended on the increase of the permissive attitudes. When the results were considered with the self-construal evaluation, we found that the self-construal of mothers did not significantly affect the reasonability level of prosocial lies in children.
