Otizm spektrum bozukluğu, sosyal etkileşim ve iletişimde gecikme ya da sapma, sosyal çevreye ilgisizlik, yineleyici-sınırlı-olağandışı davranış ve ilgiler ile aynılığın korunmasında ısrar ile karakterize nörogelişimsel bir bozukluktur. Otizm etiyopatogenezine yönelik çalışmalar son yıllarda daha çok epigenetik değişikliklere yönelmiştir. Epigenetik mekanizmalar içinde protein kodlamayan ve proteine çevrilemeyen RNA transkriptleri olan kodlamayan RNA’lar (ncRNA) araştırmaların yeni odak noktası olmuştur. Kısa ncRNA'lar (sncRNA) özellikle nörogelişimsel bozuklukların etiyolojisinde giderek artan bir şekilde ilgi görmektedir. Bu derlemede sncRNA’ların otizm ile ilişkisi, etiyoloji ve tedavide hedef molekül olması tartışılacaktır

Autism spectrum disorder is a neurodevelopmental disorder characterized by delays or deviations in social interaction and communication, lack of interest in the social environment, repetitive-restrictive-anomalous behaviors and interests, and insistence on sameness. In recent years, studies on etiopathogenesis of autism have focused on epigenetic changes. Among epigenetic mechanisms non-coding RNAs (ncRNA) which do not code proteins and lead to transcripts which do not translate into proteins have become the recent focus of research. Interest in short ncRNAs (sncRNA) is increasing especially in the etiology of neurodevelopmental disorders.
