Bu çalışmada çocuk istismarı ve ihmalinin ardından dayanıklılığın incelenmesi amaçlanmıştır. Bu amaçla çocuk istismarı ve ihmali, başa çıkma stratejileri, depresif belirtiler ve benlik gelişimi arasındaki ilişkiler incelenmiştir. Çalışmanın temel amacı; çocuk istismarının depresif belirtiler ve benlik gelişimi üzerindeki etkisi için problem odaklı ve duygu odaklı stratejilerin aracılık etkisinin incelenmesidir. Bu çalışmanın örneklemi yaşları 17-29 aralığındaki 934 üniversite öğrencisinden oluşmaktadır. Katılımcıların %42’si (n = 338) erkek ve %58’i (n = 546) kadındır. Çalışmada veri Çocuk İstismarı ve İhmali Ölçeği, Stresle Başa Çıkma Tarzları Ölçeği, Beck Depresyon Envanteri, Benlik Saygısı Ölçeği ve Genel Benlik Yeterliliği Ölçeği ile toplanmıştır. Çocuk İstismarı ve İhmali Ölçeği için doğrulayıcı faktör analizi yapılmış ve modelin genel olarak iyi bir model uyumu gösterdiği bulunmuştur. Çocuk istismarı ve ihmalinin depresif belirtiler ve benlik gelişimi üzerindeki doğrudan ve başa çıkma aracılığıyla dolaylı etkilerini tanımlayan model Yapısal Eşitlik Modeli ile test edilmiştir. Problem odaklı ve duygu odaklı stratejiler, çocuk istismarı ve ihmalinin depresif belirtiler ve benlik gelişimi üzerindeki etkisi için tam aracılık yapmaktadırlar. Ayrıca duygu odaklı ve problem odaklı stratejilerin tek başlarına kısmi aracı oldukları bulunmuştur. Sonuçlar önleme ve müdahalelerde başa çıkma stratejilerinin değerlendirilmesinin önemini göstermektedir.

In this study, it was aimed to investigate resilience following child abuse and neglect. For this purpose, the relationships between child abuse and neglect, coping strategies, depressive symptoms, and self-development were investigated. The main aim of this study was to evaluate the mediation effects of problem-focused strategies and emotion-focused strategies in the relationship between child abuse and neglect and depressive symptoms and self-development. The sample consisted of 934 university students between the ages of 17-29. Of the participants, 42% (n = 388) were male and 58% (n = 546) were female. Data were collected with Child Abuse and Neglect Scale, Coping Styles of Stress Scale, Beck Depression Inventory, Rosenberg’s Self-Esteem Scale, and General Self-Efficacy. For Child Abuse and Neglect Scale, confirmatory factor analyses were run and the model indicated good overall model fit. Structural equation modeling was used to test a model that included the direct effects of child abuse and neglect on depressive symptoms and self-development as well as mediated effects through an influence on coping styles. Problem -focused and emotionfocused strategies fully mediated the relationships between child abuse and neglect and both depressive symptoms and self-development. Moreover, it was found that emotion-focused and problem-focused coping strategies separately and partially mediated the relationships between abuse and both symptoms and self-development. The results of this study reveal the importance of assessment of coping strategies in prevention and interventions.
