Kadınların iş gücüne katılımındaki artışla birlikte, feminist hareketin ve sendikaların vurguladığı cinsel taciz olgusu, 1970'lerin ortasından itibaren hukuki yönlerinin yanısıra, psikolojik etkileri açısından da tartışılmaya başlanmıştır. Bu olgunun nedenlerine ilişkin yorum getiren biyolojik, örgütsel, sosyo-kültürel modellerin hiç biri tam olarak desteklenmemiştir. Ancak iş yerindeki statü eğitim olanakları, kadın/erkek oranı gibi nesnel koşulların yanısıra, kadınların ve erkeklerin bu yaşantılara yükledikleri öznel-duygusal anlamların da cinsel taciz yaşantılarında önemli rol oynadığı görgül çalışmalarla gösterilmiştir. Anılan olgunun önelenebilmesi konusunda geliştirilen çeşitli modellerde, söz konusu olgu, hukuki yönü, işyeri yönetmeliği ve eğitim uygulamaları ile güç yapısında gerçekleştirilmesi önerilen değişiklikler açısından tartışılmaktadır.

One of the consequences of the increase in the participation of women to labour process has been sexual harassment as labeled by the feminist movement and the union activist. The psychological implications and the legal aspects of sexual harassment have gained recognition in the agenda since mid-1970s. The biological, the organizational and the socio-cultural models developed to explain the antecedent conditions of the process have not been totally supported yet. However, the objective conditions in employment settings such as status, education opportunities and male/female ratio and the subjective conditions as perception and attribution of male and female employees have been shown as important factors contributing to sexual harassment. Various models offering strategies for the prevention of sexual harassment focusing on the legal, the educational, and the power aspects of the labour process are discussed.
