Bu amaçla Duygu Odaklı Terapi, psikoterapötik değişimlerle duygunun rolünü, hayatın anlamını anlamaya yönelik terapi sürecidir. Duygu odaklı terapide danışanlara, duyguları daha iyi tanımlamaları, deneyimlemeleri, kabullenmeleri, düzenlemeleri, irdelemeleri, anlatıma dönüştürmeleri, kullanmaları ve esnek olarak kontrol etmeleri konusunda yardımcı olunur. İletişimsel süreçlerinde danışanların, sakındıkları duyguları daha iyi yönlendirebilmeleri ve duygularının merkezindeki ihtiyaçlarını ve kaygılarını daha iyi tanımlamaları için farkındalık oluşturulur. Bu amaçla terapinin temel varsayımı, doğuştan sahip olunan korku, utanç, suçluluk, öfke, üzüntü, tiksinti, coşku ve neşe temel duygularının varlığını ve evrenselliğini bireylerde farkına vardırmaktır. Destekleyici yöntem olarak kullanılmaya başlanan sinema terapi (filmterapi) yöntemi de, psikoretapide duygusal müdahele oluşturma, bireyde içgörü kazandırma, özdeşim kurma, katarsis sağlama ve bütünleşme süreçleri için işlevsel bir yöntemdir. Sinematerapide amaç; sinemanın insan üzerinde oluşturduğu korku, heyecan, öfke, sevinç, coşku ve aşk gibi duyguların işlenmesine, analizine ve olumlu modelleme temellerine dayanak sağlayan, metaforlar yoluyla modellemeler oluşturarak var olan dirençlerinde çözümüne de imkan sağlayan, son yıllarda kullanımı gittikçe yaygınlaşan bir yöntemdir. Duyguların aktifleşmesi ve böylece duygu regülasyonunun sağlanmasında da işlevsel destek terapisi olarak sinematerapi, şizofreni, depresyon, okb, özgüven, eş ilişkileri, cesaret, ölüm ve yas, özel eğitim ebeveyn stresi, sorumluluk, sınav kaygısı, alkol bağımlılığı, travmatik yaşantılar, öfke, sinirlilik ve korku gibi faktörlerinin iyileşmesinde yardımcı metot olarak kullanılmaktadır. Sinematerapi pek çok ruhsal ve duygusal bozuklukların tedavisinde uzman kontrolünü gerektiren profesyonel destek yöntemi olarak kullanılmalıdır. İyileştirici etkisi olan sinematerapi yöntemi kendini açma ve değişim sağlama amacıyla, bireysel ve gruplar şeklinde de yürütülebilmektedir. Destek süreçlerinde bazen de hastaya-danışana film izleme ödevi verilmesi yöntemi de uygulama çeşitliliğindendir.

Cinemotherapy, which can be used as functional support therapy in the activation and thus the regulation of emotions; is used used as an adjunct method in the recovery of factors such as schizophrenia, depression, selfesteem, spousal relationships, courage, death and mourning, special education, parental stress, responsibility, test anxiety, alcohol dependence, traumatic experiences, anger, irritability and fear. Cinematherapy should be used as a professional support method that requires expert control in the treatment of many mental and emotional disorders. The important critical point has to be selecting the correct film for the functional purpose. The cinematherapy method which has healing effects can be carried out individually and in groups for self-opening and change. The method of giving film-watching homework to the patient-client during support processes is also one of the many varieties of applications.
