Batı ülkelerinde halen kullanılmakta olan bu droglarm dışında, bazıları da geliştirilme sürecindedir. Geleneksel antiepileptik droglar ile birlikte kullanılan bu ilaçların, genellikle, önemli yan etkilerinin olmaması seçilme nedenlerindendir. Ayrıca; etkinlikleri, farmasötik özellikleri, farmakokinetik profilleriyle de aranılan ölçütlere uymaktadırlar.

Some of the new antiepileptic drugs which were be­ing used in Western countries were offered to our clinical use and on the market in the last 5 [year]s, There are still new antiepileptic drugs in the la­boratory and clinical trial phases. These new antiepileptics are mostly used in com­bination with the old traditional antiepileptics. The reason that they are preferred is that they have fewer side effects and their clinical effects, pharmacokinetic profiles and pharmaceutic prop­erties are very favorable.
In a field where there isn't any other treatment al­ternative, we consider the new antiepileptics with a limited optimism.
