Bu çalışmada solunum sıkıntısı, ateş, sırt ağrısı ve halsizlik ile başlayıp hızlı seyir ile tam omurilik kesişi bulguları gelişen bir spinal epidural abse olgusu sunulmuştur. Enfeksiyon odağı olarak plevra effüzyonu tespit edilmiş S. aureus etken organizma olarak üretilmiştir. Hastaya drenaj ve uygun antibiyoterapi uygulanmış ancak istemik ve nekrotik süreçlerin gelişmesi nedeni ile nörolojik bulgularda düzelme olmamıştır. Spinal epidural abselerin akut formlarında pareziden plejiye geçiş hızlı olduğundan hastalık bir nöroşirurji acili olarak düşünülmelidir. Bu özellik nedeni ile spinal epidural abseler klinik, tanı ve tedavi modelleri açısından irdelenmiştir.

In this article, a spinal epidural abscess with the initial symptoms of fever, backpain and weariness rapidly progressing into an acute spinal cord compression syndrome is presented. The origin of infection was found to be a pleural effusion with s. aureus colonization. Surgical drainage and adequate antibiotherapy was instituted, but no recovery was obtained as a result of ischaemic and necrotic damage. Progression of paresis to plegia is extremely fast in acute forms of the disease and therefore spinal epidural abscesses should be treated as a neurosurgical emergency. With this special emphasis on this point, the diagnostic and therapeutic modalities of the disease are discussed
