Compilation: Comparison of Family Therapy Models Effected by General System Theory
The family therapy movement is a psychotherapy approach, which shows the patient during an individual
therapy the importance of the family structure within their healing process. Individuals who complete the
therapy, join back to their families, in which again they start to show some pre-therapy symptoms that causes an
increased attention on family therapies day by day. As contrasted with individual therapies, family therapies
don’t aim to cure the individual, but the whole family system. It is thought that solving the problems of families
or couples enables solving an individual’s problems and it also prevents the same problems to occur againFamily therapies base on the fundamentals of the general system theory approach. The process of communities
becoming a society takes place with the development of a certain system and hierarchy. Relating to the general
system approach, family is defined as a highly systematic construction, which contains at least two individuals
sharing a mutual history. The emotional bonds and a common purpose make the individuals grow to a family.
This article will be based on the general system theory and aims to compare the concepts of the structured family
therapy through the role of the therapist.
