Stres, anne karnından ölüme kadar hayatımız içerisinde var olan, alışkın olduğumuz ve uyum içinde olduğumuz durumlardan saparak yeni bir uyum ve tepki sureci içerisine girmemizi gerektiren her türlü süreci içeren geniş bir kavram olarak tanımlanmaktadır. Psikolojik stres, bilişsel, duygusal, fiziksel ve davranışsal bileşenlere sahiptir ve zemininde tüm vücudu etkileyen biyolojik değişiklikler ile kendisini gösterir. Kronik stres durumlarında, tekrarlayan stresli olaylar olduğunda, erken yaşam olumsuz olaylarına sık ve yüksek şiddette maruz kalındığında, stresin geri besleme sistemi bozulur ve uyum gösteremeyen bir biyolojik stres yanıtı gelişir. Bu durumda, sadece beyin değil, tüm vücutta hissedilen ve pek çok organ sisteminde bozukluklara sebep olabilecek olan bir kaskad çalışır ve hem psikiyatrik hem de somatik hastalıklar yaygınlaşır. Bu yazıda, psikolojik stresin, diyabet, nörolojik hastalıklar ve kanser üzerine olan etkileri hem epidemiyolojik hem de biyolojik çalışmalar açısından tartışılacaktır.

Stress is defined as a broad concept that includes all processes that require us to enter into a new process of adaptation and response by diverging from our motherhood to our death, the situations we are accustomed to and are in accord with. Psychological stress has cognitive, emotional, physical and behavioral components and manifests itself with biological changes that affect the whole body in the background. In case of chronic stress, recurrent stressful events or frequent and severe exposure to adverse events in the early life, the feedback mechanism of stress is disturpted and a maladaptive biological response develops. In this case, a cascade that works not only in the brain but in the whole body, runs, leading both psychiatric and somatic diseases to become widespread. In this article, the effects of psychological stress on diabetes, neurological diseases and cancer will be discussed from both epidemiological and biological perspective.
