Amaç: İnsanlar yaşamları boyunca çok sayıda sorunla karşılaşmakta ve bunlarla baş etmek için çeşitli yöntemler kullanmaktadır. Ancak bazı durumlarda her zamanki sorun çözme yönelimleri yetersiz kalabilmektedir. Sorun çözme becerilerindeki yetersizlik bireylerin hayatını birçok yönde olumsuz etkileyebilmektedir. Alkol-madde kullanımı da bu olumsuz etkilerden biridir ve sorun çözme becerilerini giderek daha sağlıksız hale getirebilmektedir. Bu çalışmada madde kullanan bireylerle, iyileşmekte olan bireylerin sosyal sorun çözmede kullandıkları yöntemlerin ayrıntılı biçimde incelenmesi amaçlanmıştır. Yöntem: Araştırmada Betimsel Yöntem kullanılmıştır. Çalışmaya gönüllülük esasına dayalı alkol, esrar, kokain, eroin, extasy, asit, mantar, bonzai ve diğer uçucuları kullanan ve daha önce kullanıp bırakmış olan toplam 131 kişi katılmıştır. Araştırmaya katılan kişilerden 76’sı daha önce madde kullanımı olan ve bırakan grupta yer alırken, 55’i maddeyi hala aktif olarak kullanan grupta yer almıştır. Örneklem grubuna sosyodemografik bilgi formu ile sorun çözme yönelimlerini ve tarzlarını incelemek amacı ile Gözden Geçirilmiş Sosyal Sorun Çözme Envanteri uygulanmıştır. Bulgular: Çalışmaya katılan maddeyi bırakmış ve aktif olarak kullanan grupların sorun çözme yönelimleri incelendiğinde; olumlu sorun çözme yöneliminin maddeyi bırakmış olan gruptaki puan değerlerinin daha yüksek olduğu görülmüştür (p<0,001). Olumsuz sorun çözme yöneliminin puan değerlerinin madde kullanmaya devam eden grupta daha yüksek olduğu görülmektedir (p<0,001). Akılcı sorun çözme tarzının puan değerlerinin bırakmış olan grupta daha yüksek olduğu görülmektedir (p<0,001 ). Dürtüsel-dikkatsiz sorun çözme tarzının puan değerlerinin madde kullanımına devam eden grupta daha yüksek olduğu görülmektedir (p<0,001). Kaçıngan sorun çözme tarzının puan değerlerinin madde kullanımına devam eden grupta daha yüksek olduğu görülmektedir (p<0,001). Toplam sorun çözme puanının madde kullanmayı bırakmış olan grupta daha yüksek olduğu görülmektedir (p<0,001). Sonuç: Çalışmaya katılan maddeyi bırakmış ve aktif olarak kullanan grupların sorun çözme yönelimleri ve tarzları incelendiğinde; maddeyi bırakmış olan grupta yer alan kişilerin olumlu sorun çözme yöneliminin ve akılcı sorun çözme tarzının daha yüksek olduğu, maddeyi kullanan grupta yer alanların ise olumsuz sorun çözme yöneliminin, dürtüsel-dikkatsiz sorun çözme tarzının ve kaçıngan sorun çözme tarzının daha yüksek olduğu görülmektedir. Bu durum madde kullanımının sorun çözme becerileri üzerindeki olumsuz etkisini ve madde kullanımı bırakıldıktan sonra sorun çözme becerilerinin olumlu yönde farklılaşabileceğini gösteren bir bilgi olabilir. Ancak araştırmanın kesitsel bir çalışma olması bununla ilgili net olarak yorum yapabilmeyi zorlaştırmaktadır.
